- SYS3175 -INSTALLATION of OS/2 (DURING INSTALLATION ONLY)
-
- This error occurs while installing OS/2 either after the
- first reboot or while doing a SELECTIVE INSTALL.
-
- WORK AROUND:
- If you are NOT using a Future Domain SCSI driver:
-
- RENAME: FD16-700.EXE to FD16-700.BAK or FD16-700.OLD
- Driver is found in the OS2/DRIVERS subdirectory.
-
- If you have a Future Domain driver and receive the SYS3175, you
- need to obtain an updated driver. Please, contact your vendor.
-

- SYS3175 - VIDEO (Work Around is same for both Video
- SYS3175 - PRINT and Print; both are corrupted INI's)
-
-
- SYMPTOM: You install a video driver and you received
- the SYS3175 error message.
-
- RESOLUTION: Do the following steps in the order listed:
- 1. Reset video back to VGA (see NOTE)
- 2. Run CHKDSK
- 3. MAKEINI (Valuepoints use MAKEINI for Valuepoint)
-
- NOTE: If you have one of the following, it is highly
- recommended to go back to VGA mode before you
- continue.
-
- IBM Valuepoint
- ATI
- S-3 chipset
-
- If this step is not necessary, run CHKDSK and MAKEINI.
-
-
-
- RESET VIDEO BACK TO VGA:
-
- Use this procedure instead of the SETVGA command, if you need to
- return to VGA mode. Follow procedure after starting OS/2 from
- Installation Diskette and pressing Esc to go to a command
- prompt.
-
- NOTE: X: is startup drive (where OS/2 2.1 resides)
-
- Case 1: You installed OS/2 from diskette.
-
- A. If RSPDSPI.EXE is in \OS2\INSTALL\ directory, type and press
- Enter:
-
- X:
- CD X:\OS2\INSTALL
- RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:A:\ /T:X:
- where: A: is diskette drive you used to install OS/2
-
- B. If RSPDPSI.EXE is NOT in the \OS\INSTALL\ directory:
-
- 1. Insert Installation Diskette 8 and unpack RSPDSPI.EXE
- with the following command and press Enter:
-
- X:\OS2\UNPACK A:\INSTAID X: /N:RSPDSPI.EXE
- where: A: is drive containing Diskette 8
-
- 2. Type the following commands and press Enter:
-
- X:
- CD X:\OS2\INSTALL
- RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:A:\ /T:X:
- where: A: is diskette drive you used to install OS/2
-
-
- Case 2: You installed OS/2 from CD-ROM or a LAN
-
- A. If RSPDSPI.EXE is in \OS2\INSTALL\ directory, type the
- following commands and press Enter:
-
- X:
- CD X:\OS2\INSTALL
- RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:E:\OS2SE21\ /T:X:
- where: E: is CD-ROM or LAN drive
-
- B. If RSPDSPI.EXE is NOT in OS2\INSTALL\ directory.
-
- 1. Unpack PSPDSPI.EXE with the following command and press
- Enter:
-
- X:\OS2\UNPACK E:\DISK_8\INSTAID X:/N:RSPDSPI.EXE
- where E: is the CD-ROM or LAN drive
-
- 2. Type the following commands and press Enter:
-
- X:
- CD X:\OS2\INSTALL
- RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:E:\OS2SE21\ /T:X:
- where: E: is CD-ROM or LAN drive
-
-
-
- RUN CHKDSK:
-
- 1. Perform SHUTDOWN. If you are unable to SHUTDOWN, turn off
- the system for 30 seconds.
- 2. Insert the Installation Diskette in drive A:
- 3. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart system if you SHUTDOWN.
- Turn the computer on if you turned it off.
- 4. When prompted, remove Installation Diskette and insert
- Diskette 1
- 5. Press Enter.
- 6. When the Welcome Screen appears, press Esc, to display
- the A: prompt.
- 7. Remove Diskette 1 and insert Diskette 2, which contains
- CHKDSK command.
- 8. To correct errors on hard disk, type appropriate CHKDSK
- command:
-
- NOTE:(X: denotes drive where OS/2 resides...C:, D:, etc.)
-
- For FAT file system, type: CHKDSK X: /F
- For HPFS file system, type: CHKDSK X: /F:2
-
- If you installed from CD, the command prompt stops at CD
- drive in DISK_1 subdirectory, change to DISK_2 subdir.
-
- X:\OS2SE21\DISK_2
- (X: is the CD ROM drive)
-
- 9. Press Enter to start the CHKDSK command. If you have any
- errors, you need to run CHKDSK command repeatedly until ALL
- errors are cleared up.
-

- TO MAKEINI:
-
- NOTE: This method of MAKEINI should not to be used for
- IBM PS Valuepoints. Follow instructions on MAKEINI
- for the Valuepoints, in the next section.
-
- 10. Change to drive containing OS/2. Switch to OS2 subdir.
-
- X: and press Enter
- X:\OS2 and press Enter
- X: is drive where OS/2 resides (C:, D:, etc)
-
- 11. At command line type and press Enter:
-
- MAKEINI OS2.INI INI.RC
- MAKEINI OS2SYS.INI INISYS.RC
-
- If you cannot access INI files, type and press Enter:
-
- ATTRIB OS2*.INI -R
-
- Then retry to MAKEINI.
- 12. At command line use the ATTRIB command to delete hidden file
- WP ROOT.SF in the OS2 startable partition. Type:
-
- ATTRIB X:\WP?ROOT.?SF -s -r -h and press Enter
- DEL X:\WP?ROOT.?SF and press Enter
-
- 13. Remove the diskette in drive A: and press Ctrl+Alt+Del to
- restart the system. This replaces the INI files.
- 14. It is highly recommended to do an IMMEDIATE SHUTDOWN after
- system is installed to make sure all programs and files have
- been associated correctly.

- TO MAKEINI ON A PS VALUEPOINT:
-
-
- Use this method to recover INI files on a PS ValuePoint systems.
-
- X: drive where OS/2 resides (EX: C:, D:, E:, etc)
-
- 10. Change to OS/2 drive. Change to OS2\DLL\DISPLAY and press
- Enter.
-
- X:\
- CD\OS2\DLL\DISPLAY
-
- 11. Copy the DISPLAY.DLL to the OS2\DLL subdirectory. This file
- should be 76988 bytes. Type the following and press Enter:
-
- COPY DISPLAY.DLL X:\OS2\DLL
-
- 12. Change to OS2\INSTALL subdirectory. Type and press Enter:
-
- CD\OS2\INSTALL
- COPY OS2.INI X:\OS2\OS2.INI
- COPY OS2SYS.INI X:\OS2\OS2SYS.INI
-
- 13. Use ATTRIB command for hidden file WP?ROOT.?SF. Type the
- following commands, pressing Enter after each one:
-
- ATTRIB X:\WP?ROOT.?SF -S -R -H
- DEL X:\WP?ROOT.?SF
-
- 14. Remove Diskette and press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart system.
- This takes approximates 5 minutes. If system does not start
- properly or further assistance is needed, call support and
- request VIDEO support. Please document procedure &. problem.
