  40. SYS3175 -INSTALLATION of OS/2   (DURING INSTALLATION ONLY)
  41.  
  42. This error occurs while installing OS/2 either after the
  43. first reboot or while doing a SELECTIVE INSTALL.
  44.  
  45. WORK AROUND:
  46.               If you are NOT using a Future Domain SCSI driver:
  47.  
  48.      RENAME:  FD16-700.EXE to FD16-700.BAK or FD16-700.OLD
  49.               Driver is found in the OS2/DRIVERS subdirectory.
  50.  
  51. If you have a Future Domain driver and receive the SYS3175, you
  52. need to obtain an updated driver.  Please, contact your vendor.
  53.

  56. SYS3175 - VIDEO            (Work Around is same for both Video
  57. SYS3175 - PRINT             and Print; both are corrupted INI's)
  58.  
  59.  
  60. SYMPTOM:  You install a video driver and you received
  61.           the SYS3175 error message.
  62.  
  63. RESOLUTION:  Do the following steps in the order listed:
  64.         1.   Reset video back to VGA (see NOTE)
  65.         2.   Run CHKDSK
  66.         3.   MAKEINI (Valuepoints use MAKEINI for Valuepoint)
  67.  
  68.         NOTE: If you have one of the following, it is highly
  69.               recommended to go back to VGA mode before you
  70.               continue.
  71.  
  72.                          IBM Valuepoint
  73.                          ATI
  74.                          S-3 chipset
  75.  
  76.        If this step is not necessary, run CHKDSK and MAKEINI.

  80. RESET VIDEO BACK TO VGA:
  81.  
  82. Use this procedure instead of the SETVGA command, if you need to
  83. return to VGA mode.  Follow procedure after starting OS/2 from
  84. Installation Diskette and pressing Esc to go to a command
  85. prompt.
  86.  
  87.      NOTE:   X: is startup drive (where OS/2 2.1 resides)
  88.  
  89. Case 1:  You installed OS/2 from diskette.
  90.  
  91. A. If RSPDSPI.EXE is in \OS2\INSTALL\ directory, type and press
  92.    Enter:
  93.  
  94.        X:
  95.        CD X:\OS2\INSTALL
  96.        RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:A:\ /T:X:
  97.        where:  A:  is diskette drive you used to install OS/2
  98.  
  99. B. If RSPDPSI.EXE is NOT in the \OS\INSTALL\ directory:
  100.  
  101.    1. Insert Installation Diskette 8 and unpack RSPDSPI.EXE
  102.       with the following command and press Enter:
  103.  
  104.             X:\OS2\UNPACK A:\INSTAID X: /N:RSPDSPI.EXE
  105.             where:  A:  is drive containing Diskette 8
  106.  
  107.    2. Type the following commands and press Enter:
  108.  
  109.        X:
  110.        CD X:\OS2\INSTALL
  111.        RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:A:\ /T:X:
  112.        where:  A:  is diskette drive you used to install OS/2
  113.  
  114.  
  115. Case 2:  You installed OS/2 from CD-ROM or a LAN
  116.  
  117. A. If RSPDSPI.EXE is in \OS2\INSTALL\ directory, type the
  118.    following commands and press Enter:
  119.  
  120.          X:
  121.          CD X:\OS2\INSTALL
  122.          RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:E:\OS2SE21\ /T:X:
  123.          where:  E:  is CD-ROM or LAN drive
  124.  
  125. B. If RSPDSPI.EXE is NOT in OS2\INSTALL\ directory.
  126.  
  127.    1. Unpack PSPDSPI.EXE with the following command and press
  128.       Enter:
  129.  
  130.          X:\OS2\UNPACK E:\DISK_8\INSTAID X:/N:RSPDSPI.EXE
  131.          where E:  is the CD-ROM or LAN drive
  132.  
  133.    2. Type the following commands and press Enter:
  134.  
  135.        X:
  136.        CD X:\OS2\INSTALL
  137.        RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:E:\OS2SE21\ /T:X:
  138.        where:  E:  is CD-ROM or LAN drive
  139.

  142. RUN CHKDSK:
  143.  
  144. 1. Perform SHUTDOWN.  If you are unable to SHUTDOWN, turn off
  145.    the system for 30 seconds.
  146. 2. Insert the Installation Diskette in drive A:
  147. 3. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart system if you SHUTDOWN.
  148.    Turn the computer on if you turned it off.
  149. 4. When prompted, remove Installation Diskette and insert
  150.    Diskette 1
  151. 5. Press Enter.
  152. 6. When the Welcome Screen appears, press Esc, to display
  153.    the A: prompt.
  154. 7. Remove Diskette 1 and insert Diskette 2, which contains
  155.    CHKDSK command.
  156. 8. To correct errors on hard disk, type appropriate CHKDSK
  157.    command:
  158.  
  159.      NOTE:(X:  denotes drive where OS/2 resides...C:, D:, etc.)
  160.  
  161.       For FAT file system, type:     CHKDSK X:  /F
  162.       For HPFS file system, type:    CHKDSK X:  /F:2
  163.  
  164.       If you installed from CD, the command prompt stops at CD
  165.       drive in DISK_1 subdirectory, change to DISK_2 subdir.
  166.  
  167.                   X:\OS2SE21\DISK_2
  168.                (X: is the CD ROM drive)
  169.  
  170. 9. Press Enter to start the CHKDSK command.  If you have any
  171.    errors, you need to run CHKDSK command repeatedly until ALL
  172.    errors are cleared up.

  176. TO MAKEINI:
  177.  
  178.     NOTE:  This method of MAKEINI should not to be used for
  179.            IBM PS Valuepoints.  Follow instructions on MAKEINI
  180.            for the Valuepoints, in the next section.

  182. 10. Change to drive containing OS/2.  Switch to OS2 subdir.
  183.  
  184.               X:        and press Enter
  185.               X:\OS2    and press Enter
  186.           X:  is drive where OS/2 resides (C:, D:, etc)
  187.  
  188. 11. At command line type and press Enter:
  189.  
  190.          MAKEINI OS2.INI INI.RC
  191.          MAKEINI OS2SYS.INI INISYS.RC
  192.  
  193.     If you cannot access INI files, type and press Enter:
  194.  
  195.          ATTRIB OS2*.INI -R
  196.  
  197.     Then retry to MAKEINI.
  198. 12. At command line use the ATTRIB command to delete hidden file
  199.     WP ROOT.SF in the OS2 startable partition.  Type:
  200.  
  201.          ATTRIB X:\WP?ROOT.?SF -s -r -h     and press Enter
  202.          DEL X:\WP?ROOT.?SF                 and press Enter
  203.  
  204. 13. Remove the diskette in drive A: and press Ctrl+Alt+Del to
  205.     restart the system.  This replaces the INI files.
  206. 14. It is highly recommended to do an IMMEDIATE SHUTDOWN after
  207.     system is installed to make sure all programs and files have
  208.     been associated correctly.

  212. TO MAKEINI ON A PS VALUEPOINT:
  213.  
  214.  
  215. Use this method to recover INI files on a PS ValuePoint systems.
  216.  
  217.          X:  drive where OS/2 resides  (EX: C:, D:, E:, etc)
  218.  
  219. 10. Change to OS/2 drive.  Change to OS2\DLL\DISPLAY and press
  220.     Enter.
  221.  
  222.             X:\
  223.             CD\OS2\DLL\DISPLAY
  224.  
  225. 11. Copy the DISPLAY.DLL to the OS2\DLL subdirectory.  This file
  226.     should be 76988 bytes.  Type the following and press Enter:
  227.  
  228.            COPY DISPLAY.DLL X:\OS2\DLL
  229.  
  230. 12. Change to OS2\INSTALL subdirectory.  Type and press Enter:
  231.  
  232.            CD\OS2\INSTALL
  233.            COPY OS2.INI X:\OS2\OS2.INI
  234.            COPY OS2SYS.INI X:\OS2\OS2SYS.INI
  235.  
  236. 13. Use ATTRIB command for hidden file WP?ROOT.?SF.  Type the
  237.     following commands, pressing Enter after each one:
  238.  
  239.            ATTRIB X:\WP?ROOT.?SF -S -R -H
  240.            DEL X:\WP?ROOT.?SF
  241.  
  242. 14. Remove Diskette and press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart system.
  243.     This takes approximates 5 minutes.  If system does not start
  244.     properly or further assistance is needed, call support and
  245.     request VIDEO support.  Please document procedure &. problem.
