  38.                                  PKWARE FEATURES
  39.  
  40.           The following features are available with PKWARE  Version 1.0
  41.           (PKZIP/PKUNZIP/PKSFX) Compression Programs.
  42.  
  43.               Special file handling capabilities will  automatically
  44.               recurse through subdirectories and store  pathnames within
  45.               a ZIP file.  These paths can then be created  on extraction
  46.               if they do not already exist.
  47.  
  48.               A file that has been created as a  self-extracting file can
  49.               be treated as a normal ZIP file.  All PKZIP  and PKUNZIP
  50.               options (except -v  View) will be valid.
  51.  
  52.               Files contained in a ZIP file can be viewed in  several
  53.               different ways.  For example, the can be  sorted by:
  54.               compression ratio, size, date, name, or  extension.
  55.  
  56.               Special file attributes (hidden, read-only,  system) can be
  57.               masked during creation or extraction of a ZIP  file.  PKZIP
  58.               can also be configured to include or not  include hidden and
  59.               system files.

  61.               Individual file comments (up to 60 characters  in length)
  62.               can be programmed for each file in the ZIP  file.

  64.                    OS2GIF Version 1.0
  65.  
  66.    OS2GIF is a NON PM OS/2 application to display GIF files  on EGA or VGA
  67. video systems. The 256 color GIF files will require a VGA  adapter for an
  68. enjoyable picture.  OS2GIF supports a virtual screen larger  than the physical
  69. video screen which allows panning over the  image.
  70.  
  71.    Currently OS/2 Presentation Manager Version 1.1 does not  effectively
  72. support the 256 color mode of the VGA, this limits PM to a  dithered image
  73. display.  Since many GIF files are in 256 colors, the loss  of the full beauty
  74. of the colors is significant.  However
  75. OS2GIF performs direct I/O to the video adapter with OS/2  Ring 2 I/O code,
  76. providing full functionality of the video  systems under OS/2.
  77.    Also, currently OS/2 PM has performance disadvantages for  image display.
  78. It is expected that these shortcomings may be addressed in  future versions of
  79. OS/2, but until they are OS2GIF will not  use PM.
