  19. "Odyssey is a general purpose communications program suitable for
  20. calling Mainframe, Minicomputer, or PC-based services and
  21. bulletin boards. This evaluation version is full and complete;
  22. it contains no drop-dead date or other underhanded tricks to
  23. promote registrations. Odyssey requires a hard disk and a modem.
  24. Minimum 500K floppy. [Zeg maar gerust 1 meg op je harde schijf,

  27. Features that make Odyssey stand out are:
  28. -    Instant, painless installation for most computer configura-
  29.      tions. Support is included for COM1 through COM8.
  30. -    Support for modem speeds up to 115200 baud.
  31. -    43/50 line support on EGA/VGA monitors.
  32. -    MNP levels 2, 4, and 5 built into software. Can double the
  33.      effective speed of non-MNP modems.
  34. -    16550 UART chip support built-in.
  35. -    Very complete and accurate emulations of ANSI, Data General
  36.      200, TTY, DEC VT100, and VT320 terminals VT100 and VT320
  37.      emulations include 132-column capability.
  38. -    Screen review (scrollback) buffer with editing and paste
  39.      including paste to communications session. Edit and Paste
  40.      can also work with any text file.
  41. -    A full suite of file transfer protocols - ANSI, Compuserve
  42.      B+, SuperKermit, Xmodem, Xmodem-1k, Ymodem, Ymodem batch,
  43.      Ymodem-g batch, Zmodem (including batch).
  44. -    All transfers execute in the background so you can prepare
  45.      messages or even shell out to DOS while they take place. 
  46.      Timing tests show a 5% degradation of downloading and 30%
  47.      degradation in formatting floppies in a worst-case test on
  48.      a 4.77mhz 8088.
  49. -    Full Pascal-like script language with learn mode. Scripts
  50.      are fully syntax checked before execution. There is no more
  51.      powerful script language in the industry.
  52. -    Keyboard remapping facility to customize odd terminal
  53.      emulator situations."

  55. Ik kan hier slechts het volgende aan toevoegen:
  56. o    De Dos-Shell is superieur en er is niets wat de gebruiker in
  57.      DOS kan uithalen wat de communicatie in de achtergrond
  58.      verstoort. Dat alsdan de ZModem overdrachtssnelheid zakt van
  59.      de gebruikelijke 116 Bps naar 110 Bps op 1200 baud is
  60.      normaal, nochthans is deze terugval zeer beperkt: Hulde !
  61. o    Een multitasking emulatie van de gebruikte vensters (Edit,
  62.      Review, Log) als in TM is helaas niet doorgevoerd, waar-
  63.      schijnlijk vanwege de -overigens sublieme- achtergrond-
  64.      communicatie;
  65. o    PCTools 6 had moeite de main executable ODY.EXE uit te
  66.      voeren d.m.v. het Launch commando, uitvoering vanuit de
  67.      applications list lukt vreemd genoeg wel!
  68. o    DIT JUWEELTJE ONTBEERT EEN MUISAFHANDELING ! Dit is voor de
  69.      meeste muis-gebruikers echter makkelijk op te lossen door
  70.      een algemeen muismenu te installeren (voor GENIUS POP-UP via
  71.      GMENU.EXE!). Voor de 90-er jaren echter een minpuntje:
  72.      PLEASE UPDATE !
  73. o    Zoals zovaak heeft het manual de minste aandacht gekregen
  74.      maar registratie belooft u een officiele versie.

  97. Als fervent gebruiker van het onovertroffen TeleMate communi-
  98. catiepakket komt Odyssey enigszins familiair voor. Nochthans kan
  99. het de toets mijner kritiek glansvol doorstaan. Op enkele punten
  100. streeft het TM voorbij, op andere punten weer niet. 
  101. Een zeer volwaardig commpakket dat, zoals TM, inzake gebruikers-
  102. vriendelijkheid Telix en Procomm ver achter zich laat en in de
  103. QModem klasse kan worden gerangschikt. Voor niet TeleMate-Junks
  104. een regelrechte aanrader.
