  31. EasyCASE is an easy-to-use Computer Aided Software  Engineering
  32. (CASE) tool intended to simplify the generation (with a  certain
  33. amount of automation) of data flow diagrams (DFDs),
  34. transformation graphs (data/control flow schema diagrams),  state
  35. transition diagrams, structure charts and entity  relationship 
  36. diagrams (ERDs). EasyCASE produces these charts in  accordance 
  37. with the Yourdon-DeMarco, Gane & Sarson, Ward-Mellor,  Hatley-
  38. Pirbhai (also known as the Boeing-Hatley method), Yourdon-
  39. Constantine and Chen representations and metholodogies for 
  40. structured analysis and design (including real time) as 
  41. published in their respective texts.
  42. EasyCASE provides an easier to use, more automated method of 
  43. producing these diagrams than does a presentation graphics  or 
  44. drawing program in that the drawing features provided are  only 
  45. those required to provide the symbols, connections,  annotation 
  46. and relationships required for the specific chart types 
  47. implemented.
  48. EasyCASE is considerably less expensive and is also easier  to 
  49. use than most of the full-featured CASE tools in that it 
  50. provides only the basic functions necessary for performing  and 
  51. presenting structured systems analysis and design.
  52. EasyCASE provides a drawing area equivalent in size to 3  sheets 
  53. wide (approx. 24 inches) by 2 sheets high (approx. 21  inches) of 
  54. A4 size paper. Scrolling around the drawing area can be 
  55. performed using the mouse or keyboard. The whole chart or a 
  56. specific area, selected using the mouse, can be printed to a 
  57. number of output devices which are compatible with the 
  58. following; Epson FX, Epson LQ, Okidata Microline, IBM  Graphics 
  59. Printers, Hewlett-Packard Graphics (HPGL) plotters, Hewlett-
  60. Packard QuietJet, LaserJet (HPLJ) and DeskJet printers.

  62. EasyCASE requires a Hercules (HGC), EGA or VGA (with EGA
  63. emulation capability) graphics card, a monochrome or  enhanced
  64. color (EGA/VGA only) monitor, Microsoft mouse or compatible  and
  65. ideally an 8 MHz 80286 (PC-AT) based PC or better, with at
  66. least 512 kbytes of RAM. An Intel 80287 or 80387 math
  67. co-processor will improve the speed of screen updates and  chart
  68. draws. Hard copy can be directed to a number of printers  which
  69. are compatible with the following ; Epson FX, Epson LQ,  Okidata
  70. Microline, IBM Graphics Printers, HPGL Plotters,  Hewlett-Packard
  71. QuietJet, LaserJet (HPLJ) series and DeskJet (including the
  72. DeskJet Plus) printers.

  74. Note, EasyCASE will not work with EGA cards which do not  support
  75. the 80 column by 43 line EGA mode (early IBM EGA cards fall  into
  76. this category) or EGA cards with less than 128kbytes of  memory.
  77. EasyCASE also will not work correctly with non-Microsoft
  78. compatible mice.
  79. EasyCASE is best run on an EGA or VGA card as use is made of
  80. color to highlight objects, dialog boxes etc. EasyCASE can  be
  81. used with an EGA or VGA card connected to a monochrome  monitor.
  82. The Hercules graphics card (HGC) is capable of displaying  only
  83. monochrome, highlighting (in graphics mode) is not  available.
