WAMPUM version 3.1B Volume 3980 & 3831
WAMPUM (Ward's Automated-Menu Package Using Microcomputers) is a two-
disk set of a full-featured, menu-driven implementation of the dBASE III
programming language. WAMPUM can be used both as an application-development
tool and an end-user database-management system. The end-user menu is
designed to let a user do the normal things that are done with a database:
adding, editing, deleting, and undeleting records; running reports and
labels; selecting the primary index for input and output of data; and
entering record-selection criteria to narrow down which records are
produced in listings and reports. The developer mode of WAMPUM can do all
of the above plus a number of additional options which allow a person to
develop a database application for others to use. The developer mode allows
the creation of new data files and indexes as well as reports, labels, and
printer formats. It also provides access to the data files used to develop
and edit checks, data-entry menus, macros, preformatted output, and form
letters. Finally, it allows for custom applications by storing a
configuration to identifying the files, indexes, printer, and name of each
application. WAMPUM's main data file may contain up to 400 fields, but if
more than 128 fields are created you will lose dBASE III- compatibility.
This program can also create and use dBASE III compatible reports and
labels, have a complete multi-user network- support using any dBASE file,
calculate fields using standard dBASE expressions, and perform boolean
searches of dBASE III compatible MEMO fields. This program also has a
NetBIOS compatible record and file-locking network-support. WAMPUM can
create and use up to 7 B-Tree indexes per .DBF file, have 10 data-entry
screen formats tailored to any application, create printer templates to
support up to 10 fonts, create and use "mail merge" form-letter files,
rebuild a damaged database or index due to a power failure, and has copy
utilities to import and export any data. WAMPUM also has many other
features described in detail in its documentation of 80+ pages.
Usage: Programming.
System requirements
WAMPUM 3.1 may be used on any IBM PC-compatible computer
running DOS 2.0 or higher with a hard disk. For multi-user
network applications, DOS 3.1 or higher is required on every
computer as well as an IBM NetBIOS-compatible network. For
performance reasons, an 80286 or 80386 processor is desirable.
Minimum memory requirement is 320K above and beyond the memory
requirements of DOS and any memory-resident programs in use.
Minimum memory is 420K (with DOS 3.1) to link to REPORT and LABEL
programs from within WAMPUM. Without much in the way of
memory-resident software, WAMPUM typically needs 512K to operate
satisfactorily after loading DOS. WAMPUM will run on either a
monochrome or color display.
NOTE: this is a shareware version, to be used in a 90 day try-out period.
Unfortunately, the start of this period has already been activated; so YOU
CAN ONLY RUN THE PROGRAM IF YOU SET BACK YOUR SYSTEM DATE TO SOMETHING IN
1986 or 1987!
