  47. Program Description:
  48. The Writer's Toolkit is a collection of 20 useful utility
  49. programs. Most of these programs are filters for text files. The
  50. programs work as shown in the documentation. Anyone doing alot of
  51. word processing or programming would be interested in having these
  52. programs in their library. These programs were tested on an IBM XT
  53. with a color monitor and an Epson FX-80 printer. Dos ver. 2.0.
  54. The authors do not specify what equipment these programs will run
  55. with.
  56.  
  57. The documentation is concise, complete, well written and has many
  58. examples showing how to use the programs. Some of the examples
  59. will not run exactly as shown because the text files shown in the
  60. command do not exist on the disk.  For these examples, just
  61. substitute the name of an existing text file.

  63. These programs were tested on an IBM XT with a color monitor and
  64. an Epson FX-80 printer. Dos ver. 2.0.

  66. Notes on some of the programs.
  67.  
  68. CAL.EXE        Only appears to work between the dates of 1901 to
  69.                1989.
  70. CAPITALS.EXE   If you try the example "CAPITALS <EXAMPLE" , you
  71.                will have to hit CTRL-Break to return to DOS.
  72. COLOR.EXE      You will need to have a CONFIG.SYS file with the
  73.                command "DEVICE=ANSI.SYS" in it.  Otherwise, you
  74.                will see the escape sequences also.  Try it with
  75.                and without the CONFIG.SYS file.
  76. DETAB.EXE      This converts tab characters into spaces.  The
  77.                documentation is a little confusing on this one.
  78. DUP.EXE        The source text must be sorted.  Use the DOS sort
  79.                filter to sort the source text.
  80. ENCRYPT.EXE    Dont forget the encryption key used to encrypt the
  81.                file.
  82. ENTAB.EXE      Replaces groups of 8 spaces with the tab character.
  83.                documentation is a little confusing.
  84. FREQ.EXE       Only works on a sorted list of words.  You will
  85.                have to  The use the "words" and "sort" filters on
  86.                the text before you use the "freq" filter.  See the
  87.                example in the documentation file.
  88. MEMO.EXE       This is the most interesting program on the disk.
  89.                This program displays a list of memos that have the
  90.                system date.
  91. NL.EXE         If you add line numbers to your text file be aware
  92.                that there is no command to remove them.  The 2nd
  93.                example in the documentation will not work because
  94.                there is no "grep" command on the disk.
  95. WHITE.EXE      Counts the spaces, tabs and newlines in a text
  96.                file.
  97. WORDS.EXE      Puts all the words in a text file on separate
  98.                lines.  This must be done first before the "freq"
  99.                filter  will work correctly.
