  20. HPF - Automatic Soft Font Loader for HP LaserJet+ and compatible  printers
  21.  
  22. HPF is a resident utility which monitors the printer messages for  any request
  23. for fonts and HPF will automatically load the font  into the printer. HPF
  24. first checks to see if the font has already  been loaded, then HPF checks if
  25. there is sufficient memory free in  the printer. If the printers memory is
  26. likely to be full, the  least recently used font is deleted first.
  27.  
  28. HPF is designed to make the use of soft fonts easier. There is an  increasing
  29. range of soft fonts available for HP LaserJet  compatible printers, but
  30. because there is no standard method for  loading soft fonts, they can be quite
  31. difficult to use. Some  software packages are supplied with extensive facili-
  32. ties for 
  33. loading the soft font files into your printer, whilst others  require you to
  34. load the soft fonts before a document can be  printed. This can be tedious -
  35. and furthermore however good the  software package is, it forgets the printer
  36. soft font status on  exit only to reload the fonts again when the application
  37. is  re-loaded again.

  39. Few, if any, applications keep a check on the memory used by the  soft fonts
  40. so the applications can blindly load a soft font when there is no  room in the
  41. printer's memory.

  43. Worse still is the chaos which can result because the printer is  switched
  44. off, or the printer is shared by a number of computers  and is disconnected.
  45.  
  46. HPF OFFERS A SOLUTION
  47.  
  48. With HPF you are no longer required to execute BATch files to load  soft
  49. fonts;
  50.          you no longer have to calculate the amount of free  printer memory;
  51.          you no longer have to remember to re-load the printer  fonts after
  52.          disconnecting or switching off the printer.

  54. Requirements:
  55.  
  56.   HP LaserJet Plus, and compatible printer connected to printer  port
  57.   of computer; hard disc complete with downloaded PCL compatible  soft
  58.   fonts.
