  7. This README describes an OS/2 device driver (SBCD2.ADD) for the following
  8. CD-ROM drives:

  19. The OS/2 device driver (SBCD2.ADD) supports the following features:
  20.  
  21.   * Reads data from CD-ROM discs conforming to the High Sierra/ISO-9660
  22.     file formats.
  23.  
  24.   * Plays audio from standard audio CDs or mixed mode CD-ROM discs
  25.     containing both data and audio
  26.  
  27.   * Multisession photo CD  (for drives supporting this feature)
  28.  
  29.   * Reads data from Mode 2 Form 1 or Mode 2 Form 2 sector formats
  30.  
  31.   * MMPM/2 Software Motion Video
  32.  
  33.   * MMPM/2 CD Audio Player
  34.  
  35.   * Software lock, unlock and eject  (for drives supporting this feature)

  38. THIS CD-ROM DEVICE DRIVER IS DESIGNED TO BE USED WITH THE OS/2 2.1 AND OS/2
  39. WARP PRODUCTS AND IS GOVERNED BY THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE OS/2 PROGRAM

  50. Before starting the installation procedure, you should unzip the
  51. files included in the SBCD2.ZIP file and copy them to a diskette.
  52. The diskette you created will be referred to as the "CD-ROM Device
  53. Driver Diskette" in the following installation instructions.

  55. The following files are included in the SBCD2.ZIP file:
  56.  
  57.      SBCD2.ADD  -  OS/2 device driver
  58.          *.DDP  -  Installation profiles
  59.     README.PAN  -  This README file.

  64. Installation if OS/2 is already installed on your fixed disk
  65. ------------------------------------------------------------

  67. 1. Run the Device Driver installation program
  68.  
  69.    a. Open the OS/2 System folder on the desktop.
  70.    b. Open the System Setup folder.
  71.    c. Open Device Driver Install.
  72.    d. Insert the "CD-ROM Device Driver Diskette"
  73.    e. Select Install
  74.    f. Select the device driver to install from the list
  75.    g. Select OK.

  77.    (Note: You do not need to reboot OS/2 before starting step 2 below).

  79. 2. After the Device Driver Installation is complete, you must run
  80.    Selective Install to install the files for the OS/2 CD-ROM Device
  81.    Manager and OS/2 CD-ROM File System.

  83.    a. Open the OS/2 System folder on the desktop.
  84.    b. Open the System Setup folder.
  85.    c. Open Selective Install
  86.    d. (For OS/2 2.1) Select the CD-ROM Device Support check box
  87.                      Select OK
  88.    e. (For OS/2 WARP) Select the CD-ROM ICON Button
  89.    f. Scroll to the bottom of the CD-ROM device list table and
  90.       select the choice OTHER
  91.    g. Select OK
  92.    h. Select the OK push button to proceed from the System Configuration
  93.       screen to the OS/2 Setup and Installation window
  94.    i. Select Install
  95.    j. When prompted to do so, insert the numbered installation diskettes
  96.       or installation CD-ROM from the OS/2 product.

  99. 3. If you have changed the base I/O port address on your CD-ROM
  100.    host adapter card you must edit your CONFIG.SYS file and add
  101.    modify the /P:nnn parameter on the BASEDEV=SBCD2.ADD statement in
  102.    your CONFIG.SYS file.  Refer to the "Device Driver Parameters"
  103.    section below.

  106. 4. Shut down and restart your system
  107.

  111. Installation from the CD-ROM version of OS/2 2.1
  112. ------------------------------------------------

  114. 1.  Make a copy of the OS/2 2.1 diskette labeled "Diskette 1"
  115.  
  116. 2.  Copy the file SBCD2.ADD from the "CD-ROM Device Driver
  117.     Diskette" to the root directory on the copy of the OS/2 2.1 Diskette 1.
  118.  
  119.     (Note: If there is not enough room on the copy of OS/2 2.1
  120.      Diskette 1, then delete the file IBM2SCSI.ADD.  If you delete
  121.      IBM2SCSI.ADD, you must also edit the CONFIG.SYS file and delete
  122.      the line BASEDEV=IBM2SCSI.ADD)

  124. 3.  Edit the CONFIG.SYS file located on the copy of Diskette 1.
  125.     At the end of the file, add the following statement.
  126.  
  127.        BASEDEV=SBCD2.ADD  /P:nnn
  128.  
  129.           where "/P:nnn" is the base I/O port address selected on the
  130.           CD-ROM host interface card.  The default base I/O port address
  131.           for the Sound Blaster adapter is is 220h, so the statement
  132.           would appear as follows if the card is set to address 220h:

  135.        BASEDEV=SBCD2.ADD  /P:220

  139. 4.  Begin the installation by inserting the Installation Diskette
  140.     into drive A and restarting the system.  When prompted to insert
  141.     Diskette 1, insert the copy that you modifed.
  142.  
  143. 5.  When the System Configuration screen is displayed during installation,
  144.     the CD-ROM Device Support field will display "None".  Do not modify
  145.     the choice and continue with the installation.
  146.  
  147. 6.  After installation is complete, and you have rebooted your system,
  148.     you will not be able to access your CD-ROM drive.  This is due
  149.     to a defect in the OS/2 2.1 install program.  To access your
  150.     CD-ROM drive, perform the following steps:
  151.  
  152.     a. Copy the following files from the OS/2 2.1 Diskette 1
  153.        to the drive which OS/2 was installed.
  154.        (Note: the example assume C:, change if different)
  155.  
  156.        COPY A:OS2CDROM.DMD C:\OS2
  157.        COPY A:CDFS.IFS     C:\OS2
  158.  
  159.     b. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file on drive which OS/2 was installed
  160.        and add the following statements to the end of the file:
  161.        (Note: the example assume C:, change if different)
  162.  
  163.        DEVICE=C:\OS2\OS2CDROM.DMD /Q
  164.        IFS=C:\OS2\CDFS.IFS /Q
  165.  
  166.     c. Shut down and reboot the system
  167.  
  168.  
  169. 7.  You will need to run Selective Install to copy over some remaining
  170.     system files.
  171.  
  172.     a. Open the OS/2 System folder on the desktop.
  173.     b. Open the System Setup folder.
  174.     c. Open Selective Install
  175.     d. Select the CD-ROM Device Support check box
  176.     e. Select OK
  177.     f. Scroll to the bottom of the CD-ROM device list table and
  178.        select the choice OTHER
  179.     g. Select OK
  180.     h. Select the OK push button to proceed from the System Configuration
  181.        screen to the OS/2 Setup and Installation window
  182.     i. Select Install
  183.     j. When prompted to do so, insert the installation CD-ROM
  184.        from the OS/2 2.1 product.

  188. Installation from the diskette version of OS/2 2.1

  191. 1. Install the OS/2 2.1 product from the diskettes
  192.  
  193. 2. Go to the section above titled "Installation if OS/2 2.1 is already
  194.    installed on your fixed disk".

  198. Installation from the diskette version of OS/2 WARP
  199. ---------------------------------------------------
  200.  
  201. 1. Make a backup copy of Diskette 1 using the diskcopy program.
  202.  
  203. 2. Replace the SBCD2.ADD with the new file from this package on the new
  204.    Diskette 1.
  205.  
  206. 3. Start Install using the new Diskette 1 when prompted for Diskette 1.
  207.  
  208. 4. At the end of phase one, you will be asked to remove the diskette and
  209.    press enter to continue install.  Press the F3 key.  This will start an
  210.    OS/2 command session.
  211.  
  212. 5. Copy the SBCD2.ADD file from the new diskette 1 to the root directory of
  213.    the installation drive.
  214.  
  215. 6. Type 'EXIT' which will return you to the end of phase one installation.
  216.  
  217. 7. Remove the diskette and press return.
  218.  
  219. 8. Continue installation as normal.

  224. Installation from the CD-ROM version of OS/2 WARP
  225. -------------------------------------------------

  227. 1. Make a backup copy of Diskette 1 using the diskcopy program.
  228.  
  229. 2. Replace the SBCD2.ADD with the new file from this package on the new
  230.    Diskette 1.
  231.  
  232. 3. Install using the new Diskette 1.

  238. | SBCD2.ADD Device Driver Parameters |

  241. This section lists the parameters which are supported for the
  242. SBCD2.ADD device driver.  The parameters can be changed by modifying
  243. the BASEDEV=SBCD2.ADD line in config.sys.
  244.

  246. For the SBCD2.ADD device driver, the syntax for the line in config.sys
  247. is as follows:
  248.  
  249.    BASEDEV=SBCD2.ADD  [/P:nnn]  [/T:n] [/!NS] [/V] [/52x]

  254.      Specifies the base I/O port address of the interface card.
  255.      The value must be the same number as the port address selected
  256.      by the jumper on the host interface card.
  257.  
  258.      This driver will now ONLY the drive jumpered to unit 0
  259.      (drive select jumper 0 through 3 on the back of the drive)

  264.       Sets the adapter type connected to the CD-ROM drive.

  267.          2 = Creative Labs CD-ROM interface card (not Sound Blaster)

  276.       Under OS/2 Warp the default has been changed to autoscan only ONE
  277.       unit (unit 0, see /P:), if you have MORE than one drive daisy
  278.       chained together on the same controller, you will need to
  279.       specify this parm to get the other drives recognized.

  283.       Older Panasonic 521/523 drives respond to a different selection
  284.       command than the newer 56x drives. The Driver DEFAULTS to supporting
  285.       the newer drives. This options tells the driver to try the old
  286.       drive selection command instead.

  288. Parameter Examples
  289. ------------------

  291. 1.  Panasonic, Creative Labs OmniCD or IBM ISA CD-ROM drive attached
  292.     to standard Panasonic or IBM ISA CD-ROM host adapter:
  293.  
  294.     The standard Panasonic or IBM ISA host adapter supports base I/O
  295.     port addresses of 300h, 310h, 320h or 330h.  For example, if the
  296.     adapter is set to a base I/O port address of 300, the line in
  297.     config.sys should be:

  299.         BASEDEV=SBCD2.ADD /P:300

  302. 2.  Panasonic, Creative Labs OmniCD or IBM ISA CD-ROM drive attached
  303.     to Creative Labs Sound Blaster Pro, Sound Blaster 16, or Sound
  304.     Blaster 16 MultiCD.
  305.  
  306.     For example, if the Sound Blaster card is set for a base I/O
  307.     address of 220h, the line in config.sys should be:
  308.  
  309.         BASEDEV=SBCD2.ADD /P:220

  312. 3.  Creative Labs OmniCD attached to standard Creative Labs
  313.     CD-ROM host adapter (not Sound Blaster) :
  314.  
  315.     The standard Creative Labs host adapter supports base I/O port
  316.     addresses of 250h or 260h.  For example, if the adapter is set
  317.     to a base I/O port address of 250, the line in config.sys should be:
  318.  
  319.         BASEDEV=SBCD2.ADD /P:250 /T:2
  320.

  322. 4.  Panasonic, Creative Labs OmniCD or IBM ISA CD-ROM drive attached
  323.     to Reveal audio card.
  324.  
  325.     For example, if the Reveal audio card is set for a base I/O
  326.     address of 630h, the line in config.sys should be:

  328.         BASEDEV=SBCD2.ADD /P:630

  331. 5.  If you have more than one CD attached to the controller card,
  332.     the driver will only detect the first drive.  In order to detect
  333.     additional drives, the /!NS (disable no-scan) parameter is required.

  335.     For example, if the Creative Labs host adapter is set for a base I/O
  336.     address of 240h, and there are multiple drives daisy chained, the line
  337.     in config.sys should be:
  338.  
  339.         BASEDEV=SBCD2.ADD /P:240  /!NS

  347. 1. If you are not able to access the CD-ROM drive:
  348.  
  349.  
  350.    a.  Make sure the Base I/O Port Address specified by the /P parameter
  351.        in the config.sys file matches the Base Port Address selected
  352.        on the interface card.
  353.  
  354.  
  355.    b.  Make sure all the required files to operate the CD-ROM drive have
  356.        been installed.  You should have the appropriate BASEDEV=
  357.        statement in CONFIG.SYS for your CD-ROM device driver.  You
  358.        should also have the following statements for the CD-ROM system
  359.        files in your config.sys:

  362.           DEVICE=C:\OS2\OS2CDROM.DMD /Q
  363.           IFS=C:\OS2\CDFS.IFS /Q
  364.           DEVICE=C:\OS2\MDOS\VCDROM.SYS

  368.        If you do not have the above statements in your config.sys, you
  369.        must use the OS/2 Selective Install to install the CD-ROM
  370.        support files.

  375. 2.  If the drive letter assigned to the CD-ROM drive under OS/2 is
  376.     different than the drive letter assigned under DOS.
  377.  
  378.     The CD-ROM drive is assigned the next available drive
  379.     letter after drive letters have been assigned for the
  380.     floppy drives and fixed disk drives.
  381.  
  382.     The drive letter is also assigned after any installable block
  383.     device drivers which are located in config.sys before the
  384.     DEVICE=C:\OS2\OS2CDROM.DMD statement (i.e. DEVICE=C:\OS2\VDISK.SYS).
  385.  
  386.     There is currently no mechanism in OS/2 for assigning a specific
  387.     drive letter for the CD-ROM drive.  The drive letter assignment
  388.     under DOS can be controlled by using the /L switch on MSCDEX.EXE
  389.     command line.
