  3.     Thank you for trying the RimStar Programmer's Editor Version 2.0 demo.
  4.     
  5.     Some of the features not included in this demo:
  6.         You can not save files nor can you export to the clipboard.
  7.         Macro language compiler
  8.         (macro sources are included [*.rm files] for you to examine)
  9.         Version control macros for PVCS & TLIB
  10.  
  11. To install the editor demo:
  12.  
  13.         1. Create a subdirectory for the editor and its files.
  14.             we suggest \RSE
  15.  
  16.         3. Change to that subdirectory. CD \RSE
  17.  
  18.         4. If you have a floppy version of the demo:  XCOPY A:\ . /S /V
  19.             If you have downloaded the demo: unzip into the directory you created.
  20.             Make sure to use the -d option to create subdirs stored in the zip file,
  21.             ie. pkunzip -d rim23.zip
  22.  
  23.         5. Add the following environment variables to CONFIG.SYS:
  24.             ( assuming you installed the editor in C:\RSE )
  25.  
  26.             Add C:\RSE to the PATH and HELP environment variables.
  27.             (NOTE: If you are using Borland C++ you should place \RSE after
  28.             the path for the Borland compiler to avoid executing the wrong
  29.             CPP.EXE [we both have executables with this name.] Be sure to set
  30.             the RSE_CPP environment variable.)
  31.  
  32.             SET RSE_FLAGS=-Is3 -Iw3  (see below for indent settings description)
  33.             SET RSE_PATH=C:\RSE\MACROS
  34.             SET RSE_INCLUDE=C:\RSE\MACROS
  35.             SET RSE_CFG=C:\RSE\RSE_CFG.INI
  36.             SET RSE_CPP=C:\RSE\CPP.EXE
  37.             SET RSE_SBD=.\SBD.SBD
  38.             SET RSE_INF= (to whatever the environment variable PMREF is set to
  39.                               if you don't have a PMREF, don't set this
  40.                               This tells the editor where to get on-line help for
  41.                               the OS/2 Toolkit. These files must also be on the 
  42.                               BOOKSHELF environment variable path.)
  43.  
  44.         6. Restart your system OR run the SETENV.CMD batch file specifying
  45.             a drive letter and colon, eg. SETENV D:. If you use SETENV.CMD
  46.             you must run the editor from a command prompt and be in the
  47.             subdirectory containing RSEDEMO.EXE
  48.  
  49. To use the 'C' language source browser.
  50.  
  51.         1. Run your source modules through the browser compiler SB.EXE
  52.             Example: SB *.c
  53.             This creates browser files with the extension ._sb
  54.  
  55.             SB needs to find any header files included by your code. It will search
  56.             the INCLUDE environment variable or you can use the -I switch to pass
  57.             an include directory, eg. -I..\inc or -Ic:\C600\include
  58.  
  59.             SB also allows you to define macro names using the -D switch, eg.
  60.                 -DBUILD_OS2 or -DBUILD_OS2=1
  61.  
  62.             NOTE: If the browser compiler chokes on your source code please call us.
  63.                     The file customiz.h is automatically included to handle special
  64.                     non-ANSI keywords. If the complier appears to be erroring on a
  65.                     special keyword that is not in customiz.h, try adding it to this
  66.                     file and recompiling your source file(s). NOTE:customize.h must be
  67.                     in a directory included in the PATH environment variable
  68.                     (not RSE_PATH but PATH.)

  70.         2. Combine the ._sb files into a single browser database by using SBD.EXE
  71.             Example: SBD sbd -a *._sb
  72.  
  73.         3. Start the editor RSEDEMO.EXE
  74.             The editor looks by default for the database specified in the environment
  75.             variable RSE_SBD, if RSE_SBD is not defined then it looks for SBD.SBD
  76.             in the current directory.

  78. Regular/Smart/Template editing settings
  79.  
  80.     To set smart/regular/template editing options use these flags settings:
  81.  
  82.     SET RSE_FLAGS=-Is0        for no indent help at all
  83.     SET RSE_FLAGS=-Is1        for regular indenting
  84.     SET RSE_FLAGS=-Is2        for smart indenting
  85.     SET RSE_FLAGS=-Is3        for templates & smart indenting

  87.     The default indent width is 3 you may change it using the -Iw switch
  88.  
  89.     eg.    SET RSE_FLAGS=-Is3 -Iw5        sets template & indent width 5

  91. Using a different keyboard mapping
  92.  
  93.     The demo comes set up for Brief, but we have also included Multi-Edit
  94.     Slick, Borland IDE, and PWB keyboard mappings. To use a different
  95.     keyboard mapping copy the .obm file for the mapping you want to
  96.     keyboard.obm.
