  4. This is the Golden CommPass Communicaions window. 
  5.  
  6. It is used to display the information being read from or sent to the 
  7. communications port.  It is a transcript of the online session with CompuServe. 
  8.  
  9. Generally speaking, you should not need to look at this window during an 
  10. automated session and it is recommended that you leave this window minimized 
  11. during an automated session. 
  12.  
  13. During an interactive (manual) session, this window will be restored so that 
  14. you can properly interact with CompuServe. 
  15.  
  16. Golden CommPass is a full-featued asynchronous communications engine that has 
  17. been customized to support fully automated interaction with the CompuServe 
  18. electronic mail and forums.  It fully supports the CompuServe B+ file transfer 
  19. protocol, and will automatically use that protocol whenever a file transfer 
  20. request is made. 
  21.  
  22. Full support is included for the CompuServe B+ file transfer protocol, 
  23. including the capability to restart, or resume an interrupted file download. 
  24. When you request a file to be downloaded from CompuServe, the CompuServe host 
  25. computer will send a signal to Golden CommPass and it will automatically 
  26. display the B+ File transfer status dialog box.

  32. communications session.

  58. script.  To start a user script, the script file must be in the same directory 
  59. as Golden CommPass and must have a SCR extension.

  64. Note:  This dialog box varies slightly from the standard CUA open dialog box.

  66. This dialog box is used for several different functions, including: 
  67.  
  68. o Delete file 
  69. o Edit file 
  70. o Online scripts 
  71. o Open message file 
  72. o View catalog 
  73.  
  74.  At the top of the dialog box is an entry field which can be used to specify a 
  75.  fully qualified file name, or can be used to specify a pattern to be used in 
  76.  selecting files to be displayed in the files list box. 
  77.  
  78.  The currently selected drive and directory are displayed immediately below the 
  79.  file name entry field. 
  80.  
  81.  The file type selection combination box can be used as a quick selector to 
  82.  specify the default file name patterns for several of the more commonly 
  83.  accessed file types. 
  84.  
  85.  The two major components of this dialog box are the files and directories list 
  86.  boxes.  The files list box contains all files matching the pattern specified 
  87.  in the file name entry field.  The directories list box contains all 
  88.  sub-directories of the current directory (identified immediately below the 
  89.  file name entry field), as well as the other disk drives accessible.  The 
  90.  parent directory is represented by two periods (..).

  92.  The Open dialog box currently supports the following file types:

  94. o Advanced commands (*.0x0001) 
  95. o Catalog (*.0x0400) 
  96. o Downloads (*.0x0010) 
  97. o Headers (*.0x0008) 
  98. o Log files (*.LOG) 
  99. o Messages (*.MSG)

  121. online session.

  123. The default is to append this information to the end of the file, unless you 
  124. check the overwrite box.

  126. All information sent to or received from CompuServe will be saved in this 
  127. capture file until you  Pause or Close the capture file.

  132. Selecting this option will cause the capture file to be closed.

  134. No additional information will be saved into this file.

  139. Selecting this option will temporarily pause the capture file.  This means that 
  140. no addition information will be saved into the capture file until this option 
  141. is selected again, and the file is un-paused.

  146. Select this option to display the Online macros dialog box.  These macros will 
  147. be be transmitted to CompuServe. These macros can be used to automate routine 
  148. operations while you're online in interactive mode.

  153. You can use the online macros to transmit commands or other information to 
  154. CompuServe.  For example, to switch to menu mode (from Golden CommPass's 
  155. default of command mode), you can create a macro to issue the command 
  156. OPT;PAU;AL;S. 
  157.  
  158. If you want to include a carriage return in your macro, then use the vertical 
  159. bar (|) to indicate a carriage return.  When the text is inserted, it will be 
  160. properly translated to a carriage return for you. 
  161.  
  162. Up to twenty (20) online macros can be defined.  Each macro is identified by a 
  163. letter (from A through T).  Press the letter representing the macro you wish to 
  164. include in your response, and select the OK pushbutton.  Of course, you can 
  165. also use the mouse or the cursor movement keys to select the macro. 
  166.  
  167. If you want to change the text of a particular macro, you must first select the 
  168. macro and then type any changes in the entry field below the list box and press 
  169. the UPDATE pushbutton. 
  170.  
  171. When you are finished with this dialog, press the CANCEL pushbutton to dismiss 
  172. the dialog box, or press the OK pushbutton to include the currently selected 
  173. macro in your reply.

  180. If the modem is still connected to CompuServe, you will be asked if you want to

  195. Selecting Copy from the Edit menu will copy the current selected text in the 
  196. communications window to the system clipboard.

  198. To select text in the communications window, use the mouse pointer to point at 
  199. the first character to be selected.  Press and hold the left mouse button to 
  200. create a rectangle enclosing the text you want to select.  When you release the 
  201. mouse button, Golden CommPass will change the background color of the selected 
  202. text.

  235. This dialog box can be used to change the colors used in the Golden CommPass 
  236. communications window.

  238. You can choose from eight different colors to be applied to the Golden CommPass 
  239. communicaations window and four different types of messages that are used.

  241. A sample of each of the colors is illustrated on the right side of the dialog 
  242. box.

  244. The following settings can be changed:

  246.  Message type        Description 
  247.  
  248.  Foreground          Color used to display normal text in the communications 
  249.                      window. 
  250.  
  251.  Background          Color used as the background for the communications 
  252.                      window. 
  253.  
  254.  Error message       Error messages indicate a serious failure that prevented 
  255.                      Golden CommPass from continuing normally.  User 
  256.                      intervention may be required. For example, this color is 
  257.                      used to indicate that carrier has NOT been detected in the 
  258.                      status line at the top of the communcaitions window. 
  259.  
  260.  Warning message     A warning message indicates an event that Golden CommPass 
  261.                      was not expecting and considered to be an abnormal event. 
  262.                      However, Golden CommPass was able to recover and continue 
  263.                      communications. 
  264.  
  265.  Status message      A status message is used to indicate that the status of 
  266.                      the communcations session is changing.  It is also a 
  267.                      normal event and is for your information. For example, 
  268.                      this color is used to indicate that carrier has been 
  269.                      detected in the status line at the top of the 
  270.                      communcaitions window. 
  271.  
  272.  Information         An information message indicates that a normal event has 
  273.                      occured, such as opening the communications port.  This 
  274.                      message is for informational purposes only.

  279. Select this option to invoke the Set font size dialog.

  281. This dialog can be used to view and change the default or current font that is 
  282. used by the communications window.

  287. The font size dialog can be used to select the font to be used in the 
  288. communications window. 
  289.  
  290. All of the font sizes that the display can support are listed in the Font size 
  291. (pels) list box.  The current font size is highlighted.

  293. The window preview menu window illustrates the size of the communications 
  294. window and it's current location on the Presentation Manager desktop. 
  295.  
  296. The current window size and the total size of the display screen are listed 
  297. below the Font size listbox. 
  298.  
  299. Pressing the Change pushbutton will change the font size for the duration of 
  300. the communications session. 
  301.  
  302. Pressing the Save pushbutton will permenantly change the font size that the 
  303. Golden CommPass communications window uses.

  308. When you check this menu item, the current message window size and location is 
  309. remembered from session to session.

  311. When you turn the check on this menu item off, all message window positioning 
  312. information is immediately lost.

  317. Selecting the conference mode menu item will display the Conference mode dialog 
  318. box.

  323. The conference mode dialog box allows you to type an entire sentence, or 
  324. several sentences that can be sent as one continuous stream when you are ready. 
  325. You also have the opportunity to correct any errors before you transmit the 
  326. text to CompuServe. 
  327.  
  328. This eliminates the typical conference mode problems where everyone ends up 
  329. waiting while a slow typist keys in thier message, complete with errors. 
  330.  
  331. Note:  This dialog is also presented when a script issues the Interactive 
  332. command.  The script resumes when this dialog box is dismissed.

  337. Selecting this menu item will discontinue any Golden CommPass automated 
  338. scripting and place you into an interactive terminal session.

  343. Select this option if you want to remain online (in the terminal mode) after 
  344. Golden CommPass has completed all of it's automated processing.

  349. The B+ file transfer status dialog box presents a great deal of information 
  350. about the status of the file transfer currently in progress.  This information 
  351. includes the file name, file size and type of error correction being used. 
  352.  
  353. There is also information about the estimated amount of time remaining to 
  354. complete the file transfer, as well as the number of bytes of data remaining to 
  355. be transfered.  A bar graph provides visual representation of the amount of the 
  356. file that has already been transferred. 
  357.  
  358. To the right of the remaining information is information about the time that 
  359. the file transfer was started, how long the file transfer has been in progress, 
  360. the number of packets successfully transfered and the number of errors that 
  361. have been detected. 
  362.  
  363. Below these fields is information about the number of bytes of data that have 
  364. been transferred or receieved, as well as the actual data transfer rate 
  365. (measured in characters per second (CPS)).  A bar graph to the left of this 
  366. information provides an indication of the relative efficiency of the current 
  367. file transfer assuming the maximum transfer speed at the current modem speed.

  369. An Abort transfer pushbutton is available to terminate the file transfer 
  370. request.  When you press this pushbutton, a confirmation dialog box will be 
  371. presented before the file transfer is terminated.

  376. This dialog box is displayed whenever a B+ file transfer has been requested, 
  377. and the file already exists on your computer.  You are give the opprotunity to 
  378. specify a new file name, overwrite the existing file, attempt to resume the 
  379. file transfer (if it had been partially recieved previously) or to abort the 
  380. file transfer request.

  385. If Golden CommPass has been set to prompt you for a password every time you 
  386. sign on to CompuServe, this dialog box will be presented to allow you to 
  387. specify your current CompuServe password.

  389. Note:  Be very careful typing your password.  If you type it incorrectly, 
  390. CompuServe will reject the password and this dialog box will be displayed 
  391. again. 
  392.  
  393. The password will not be displayed in this dialog box, nor will it be displayed 
  394. in any of the Golden CommPass generated files. 
  395.  
  396. In addition, if the password that you have specified in the Options / 
  397. Parameters dialog is incorrect, this dialog box will be presented to give you 
  398. an opportunity to continue the online session.  If you do not respond within 60 
  399. seconds, the online session will be terminated.

  401. Note:  Specifying a new password here will not update the password that is 
  402. stored in your parameters file.

  407. If Golden CommPass is unable to successfully connect with CompuServe, this 
  408. redial dialog box will be presented.

  410. This dialog box keeps track of the number of times that it has dialed 
  411. CompuServe, and provides a field for you to change the maximum number of 
  412. attempts at redialing CompuServe before terminating the communications session 
  413. and closing the communications window. 
  414.  
  415. The amount of time between dialing attempts is also displayed on this dialog 
  416. box.  This time can be changed on the Options / Online defaults dialog box from 
  417. the main Golden CommPass window.

  478. Use these keys to edit the text in the reply mode.

  482.  Enter               While you are in reply mode, the enter key will split the 
  483.                      current line at the current cursor location by inserting a 
  484.                      carriage return and line feed character into the text.

  486.  Tab                 Insert a tab character at the current cursor location.

  488.  Insert              The insert key switches between insert and over type mode. 
  489.  
  490.                      In the insert mode, new text is inserted at the current 
  491.                      cursor position, and will cause any existing text to be 
  492.                      moved to the right.

  494.                      In the over type mode, any new text which is typed will 
  495.                      replace the existing text.

  497.                      Note:  Over type mode must be turned off before trying to 
  498.                      send a message.

  500.  Delete              If any text is selected, then delete key will delete that 
  501.                      text.

  503.                      If no text is selected, the delete key will remove the 
  504.                      character immediately to the right of the current cursor 
  505.                      location.

  507.  Backspace           If any text is selected, the backspace key will delete 
  508.                      that text.

  510.                      If not text is selected, the backspace key will delete the 
  511.                      character immediately to the left of the current cursor 
  512.                      location.

  514.  Shift+Delete        This will cut the currently selected text to the system 
  515.                      clipboard. 
  516.  
  517.  Ctrl+Insert         This will copy the currently selected text to the system 
  518.                      clipboard. 
  519.  
  520.  Shift+Insert        This will paste any text currently in the system clipboard 
  521.                      to the reply message at the current cursor location. 
  522.  
  523.                      If any text is currently selected, the paste operation 
  524.                      will overlay the selection. 
  525.  
  526.                      If there is not text selected, the paste operation will 
  527.                      insert the text into the message window. 
  528.  
  529.  Alt+Backspace       This will undo the last change made to the reply message 
  530.                      (if possible).

  532.  Ctrl+M              This will invoke the editor macros dialog.

  557.  Shift+Ctrl+Left This will select text (or extend the selection) from the 
  558.                 current cursor location to the beginning of the previous word.

  560.  Shift+Ctrl+Home This will select text (or extend the selection) from the 
  561.                 current cursor location to the beginning of the message.
