README for OS2INFO.EXE

this program, you use it at your own risk and agree not to hold
IBM responsable for any damage that may occur.
This package contains three files:
OS2INFO.EXE OS/2 Info program
MQCONSYS.EXE Hardware Configuration report program
README.TXT This file
This is release of the OS2INFO program is *BETA*, your
suggestions are welcome as are bug reports.
This release CAN be used to submit Defect Reports to CompuServe
76711,610 or 76711,610@compuserve.com.
To Use:
OS2info and MQCONSYS ** MUST ** be in the root directory of the
OS/2 boot drive.
Type OS2INFO and fill out the Personal Information and Hardware
Information sections. If connected to a LAN, fill out the
Network/LAN section. If using Communications Manager/2 or
Database Manager/2, fill out the IBM CM/DBM section.
Choose Problem Report when the configuration has been completed.
Then select Problem Description. Give a one-line description and
a complete and detailed description.
Then select Specific Problem Info. Choose the section or
sections that appear to apply to the suspected defect. (WIN Apps
are Windows Applications, Comm/Async is Communication problems
using a COM port, such as a modem, etc.) If nothing appears to
fit or it is an OS/2 program, OS/2 memory--not DOS
window/fullscreen memory--or performance problem, use OTHER.
Please make at least ONE selection from the list of buttons.
Pressing Submit Report will ask the frequency of the problem and
offer the ability to include the config.sys, startup.cmd, and
autoexec.bat. Only include those that have bearing to the
problem.
A file called SEND2IBM.TXT will be created containing the
information entered. A file SEND2IBM.xxx (where xxx is a number
from 000 to 999) will also be created. The highest numbered
SEND2IBM file is a copy of the current SEND2IBM.TXT file. This
keeps a history of all reported defects.
Where to send problems/comments with the OS2INFO program: If on
CompuServe, post messages to the OS2SUPPORT forum, section 23.
If NOT on CompuServe, send them to 76711,610@compuserve.com.
Most online services have the ability to send mail through a
gateway to Internet.
Known Problems:
o Occasional SYS3171 during exit--this is being investigated.
o Hardware, Network/lan, an CM/DBM dialogs do not save input
over sessions, for now it must be re-entered.
o MLE size is greater than the text limit when entering a Problem
Description.
o Problem Description is not wordwrapped in the SEND2IBM file.
o Automatic Configuration under Hardware will sometimes misread
the presence of the tokenring type and processor speed. Please
report any other mistakes in the hardware sensing.
Planned Future Enhancements:
o Call-Home feature to automatically send the Defect Report to
IBM.
o Automatic search of the config.sys for SUPPRESSPOPUPS.
o User choice of errorlog import on popup-suppressed drives.
o Ability to import files, such as those created by System
Information Tool on Warp, into the problem description.
o Ability to put OS2INFO and MQCONSYS into it's own directory.
o Automatic Icon building for OS2INFO and installing on the
Desktop.
