  4. Welcome to the installation and deinstallation utility for Galleria and 
  5. Galleria/CM. 
  6.  
  7. This utility is used to install (or deinstall) these products on your OS/2 
  8. system. You will be prompted for installation options (such as destination 
  9. directory) prior to any changes being made to your system. All changes will be 
  10. logged so you can see what this utility has done or correct errors if the 
  11. installation fails. 
  12.  
  13. The deinstall option will reverse all changes to your system should you wish to 
  14. remove the software from your system. 
  15.  
  16. Press Install to prompt for installation options. 
  17.  
  18. Press Deinstall to prompt for deinstallation options. 
  19.  
  20. Press Exit to terminate. 
  21.  
  22. NOTE: The Galleria and Galleria/CM executables are packaged using Info-ZIP's 
  23. compression utility. The installation program uses UnZip to process compressed 
  24. files from the install directory or diskette. Info-ZIP's software (Zip, UnZip 
  25. and related utilities) is free and can be obtained as source code or 
  26. executables from various anonymous-ftp sites on Internet, including 
  27. ftp.uu.net:/pub/archiving/zip/*.

  30. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Install types ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  31.  
  32. The installation process can be classified as one of the following three types: 
  33.  
  34.   Individual 
  35.  
  36.            This applies when you have an Individual license and wish to install 
  37.            the software on a standalone machine. For this type of install you 
  38.            must elect to have the install utility copy files to the specified 
  39.            directories. On completion, you should have a new folder on your 
  40.            desktop with icons for Galleria etc. You can then start the software 
  41.            by double-clicking on the required icon. The first time you start 
  42.            Galleria or Galleria/CM you will be prompted for your license 
  43.            details. These will be preserved across subsequent sessions or 
  44.            installs. 
  45.  
  46.   Server 
  47.  
  48.            If you have a Corporate license you can install the software on a 
  49.            LAN server for use by multiple clients (subject to the maximum 
  50.            number of users permitted by your license). The install process is 
  51.            similar to that for an Individual install above. The difference is 
  52.            that when you start the software and enter license details, a file 
  53.            named GALLERIA.LAN will be written to disk in the same directory as 
  54.            the executables. (You must have write permission to this directory 
  55.            to enable this file to be created.) When you start the software from 
  56.            a client on the LAN, it will look for this file and license details 
  57.            will be propagated automatically. Note that the GALLERIA.LAN file 
  58.            will be invalidated if moved to another disk or server and will need 
  59.            to be recreated.

  61.   Client

  63.            After a copy of the software licensed for Corporate use has been 
  64.            installed on the server (and the GALLERIA.LAN file created) you can 
  65.            then proceed to install the software on clients attached to the LAN. 
  66.            For a client install you should deselect the option to Copy files to 
  67.            directories, instead entering directories of those on the server 
  68.            where the software resides. The install will then create icons 
  69.            pointing to the server copy of the software. You will not be 
  70.            prompted for license details (unless the server copy has been 
  71.            incorrectly installed or the GALLERIA.LAN file has been 
  72.            invalidated).

  74.  For installation of a copy of software licensed for Corporate use on a 
  75.  standalone machine, proceed as per the Server install above. The GALLERIA.LAN 
  76.  file should be retained. 
  77.  
  78.  For an unlimited use Corporate license, a customized copy of the Galleria 
  79.  executables are supplied. You will not be prompted for license details as 
  80.  these are stored permanently in the executables. You are free to install the 
  81.  software on workstations or servers as required.

  84. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. Install options ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  86. The Install options dialog is displayed to enable you to change options for the 
  87. install. 
  88.  
  89. The Source directory must be set to the location of the packed files and 
  90. utilities. Normally this will be the same as that containing the install 
  91. utility. 
  92.  
  93. The destination Directories are the directories to be used to contain the 
  94. unpacked executables and libraries. You may choose a different directory for 
  95. the libraries (DLLs) if you wish. These directories will be created if they do 
  96. not already exist. 
  97.  
  98. If the software has already been installed on a file server you can elect not 
  99. to have the executables and libraries installed on your machine. The 
  100. Destination directories will therefore be the file server directories. 
  101.  
  102. The install utility can modify the LIBPATH statement in CONFIG.SYS on your boot 
  103. drive to point to the destination directory containing the libraries (above). 
  104. If an entry for this directory already exists in the LIBPATH statement, no 
  105. changes will be made. 
  106.  
  107. You can also have the install utility create a folder and icons for the 
  108. software on the OS/2 desktop. This will permit you to start the applications or 
  109. view documentation simply by double-clicking on the respective icons. 
  110. Subsequently, you may wish to copy or move the icons to the desktop or a folder 
  111. of your choice.

  113. It is recommended that you leave all options at their default values for the 
  114. first time you install the software or if you experience any problems with the 
  115. install. 
  116.  
  117. Press Proceed to start the install process with the above options. 
  118.  
  119. Press Defaults to reset all options to their default values. 
  120.  
  121. Press Cancel to return to the previous level.

  124. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Install activity ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  125.  
  126. The Install activity window allows you to monitor the install process. A log of 
  127. every action taken is displayed together with an eventual return code. This 
  128. will be zero for a successful install. 
  129.  
  130. When the installation is complete (or if it fails for any reason) you should 
  131. review the log contents and return code. 
  132.  
  133. Press Save log to write the log to the source disk/directory as INSTALL.LOG. 
  134.  
  135. Press OK to exit.

  145. (Note that the information below is also to be found in the included README.DOC 
  146. file should you need to refer to this after installation.) 
  147.  
  148. Galleria, as a graphics-intensive application, demands a high level of support 
  149. from display drivers. It is recommended that you ensure that you have the 
  150. latest version of display driver installed for your display adapter type prior 
  151. to installation. 
  152.  
  153. Below are fixes or bypasses for common problems that may be experienced: 
  154.  
  155.      Failure with SYS317x/SYS318x etc. when loading first image with VGA and 
  156.       SVGA drivers. Replacement IBMVGA32.DLL and IBMDEV32.DLL modules are 
  157.       included in the floppy-based version of this software in PJ10311.ZIP. 
  158.       These modules are also available for download from the OS2AVEN forum on 
  159.       CompuServe (as GALPTF.ZIP). Alternatively, contact IBM Support requesting 
  160.       the fix for APAR PJ10311. 
  161.  
  162.       This problem has been fixed in OS/2 3.0. 
  163.  
  164.      Scrolling errors with 8514/A, S3 and ATI drivers. Bad data may be 
  165.       displayed in the scrolled area or even outside of Zoom window. This may 
  166.       also result in lockups on S3 systems. Contact IBM Support requesting the 
  167.       fix for APAR PJ12059. 
  168.  
  169.       For ATI cards, contact ATI Technologies for a fix. 
  170.  
  171.      Miscellaneous errors (including exceptions, incorrect colors or scrolling 
  172.       problems) with other drivers. This is normally an indication that the 
  173.       display driver currently installed does not fully support the default 
  174.       direct paint mode used by Galleria. These problems may disappear if you 
  175.       change the driver settings to use a different color depth. If not, you 
  176.       should be able to bypass the problem by setting the Paint directly cutoff 
  177.       value to the maximum in the Galleria Preferences dialog. For a permanent 
  178.       fix, contact the vendor of your display adapter for an updated driver.

  181. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6. Deinstall options ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  182.  
  183. The Deinstall options dialog is displayed to enable you to change options for 
  184. the deinstall. 
  185.  
  186. The destination Directories are the directories used for a prior install to 
  187. contain the unpacked executables and libraries. All installed files will be 
  188. deleted from these directories (unless you disable this). These directories 
  189. will be removed if they are empty after the files are deleted. 
  190.  
  191. If you did not copy files during installation (i.e. you used a file server copy 
  192. of the software instead) you should disable the Delete files option. 
  193.  
  194. The deinstall utility can restore the LIBPATH statement in CONFIG.SYS on your 
  195. boot drive to remove the entry for the directory containing the libraries 
  196. (above). If an entry for this directory does not exist in the LIBPATH 
  197. statement, no changes will be made. 
  198.  
  199. The deinstall process can also remove the folder (and all contents) from the 
  200. OS/2 desktop created during the install. 
  201.  
  202. Press Proceed to start the deinstall process with the above options. 
  203.  
  204. Press Cancel to return to the previous level.

  207. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7. Deinstall activity ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  208.  
  209. The Deinstall activity window allows you to monitor the deinstall process. A
