ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. How to use the program ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This section describes how to use the program.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.1. Start ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
It's necessary to change the OS2COM.INI to your needs!
How to use the OS2COM.INI is described in this manual and in the original
OS2COM.INI delivered with the program. Every line is commented and should give
you all the help you need to understand what it does.
However, there's a section with a detailed explanation in this manual.
The OS/2-Commander should be started with the OS2C.CMD.
This is the only way to change to the current drive and directory when leaving
the program. If you don't need it (e.g. if running in a window) of course you
can run it by starting the OS2COM.EXE directly.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.2. The keys ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
CURSOR-Up/Down (or mouse) moves through the files.

ENTER or mouse double-click changes into the directory the cursor is actual on,
starts a program, changes inside an archive or starts a program linked to the
extension. See OS2COM.INI for more information.
If the comand line is not empty, ENTER executes the command, ESC erases the
command line.
ALT-ENTER also starts programs, but Commander will launch a new task for it.
INSERT or right mouse button tags an entry.
SPACE tags an entry, if the command line is empty.

UnArj Supports Single Files?
There is a version of UNARJ.EXE 2.41 available that is modified by Kerry Flint.
This version supports extraction of single files. The normal demo version by
Robert Jung doesn't! If you have this version, the OS/2 version is used for a
lot of things we had to use the DOS version before.
RestOrgPath allows you to restore the original pathes when copying files out
of an archive.
[AddArcer]
This section describes how to define additional arcer.
EXT: UC2
The extension of the archive files.
NAME: C:\TOOLS\ARC\UC.EXE
The arcer to call.
LIST: VS
Parameter for a listing of the archive file.
ADD: A -TST
Parameter to add files.
EXTRACT: EF
Parameter to extract files.
DELETE: D
Parameter to delete files.
BEGLIST: -->@1
After this string in the list the files are following.
The character "@" defines the end of the string respectively the beginning of
the position.
@1 = the string is found at position (column) 1 in the line,
@0 = the string is somewhere in the line.
FNAME: 1,12
The position (column) where to find the filename. Here from column 1 to column
12.
FSIZE: 15,25
The position (column) where to find the filesize. Here from column 15 to column
25.
FDATE: 28,38
The position (column) where to find the filedate. Here from column 28 to column
38.
FTIME: 41,45
The position (column) where to find the filetime. Here from column 41 to column
45.
ENDLIST: matching file@0
After this string in the list the list of files ends.
@5 = the string is found at position (column) 5 in the line,
@0 = the string is somewhere in the line.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.4. The OS2COM.MNU ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The OS2COM.MNU contains the User-mene that is activated with F2. It is possible
to use more than one menu. OS/2-Commander will look in the current directory
for the OS2COM.MNU, and then, if none was found, in the directory that contains
the OS2COM.EXE.
Structure of the OS2COM.MNU:
F1 : Squish Squash
f:
cd\max\squish
sq386p squash
F1: defines the key that is used to start this menu entry, the following text
is shown as Menu-text in the menu.
All other lines are normal commands like in normal batch files.
F2 : Maximus Filebase Compiler
f:
cd \max
fbp
F: Format Drive A
format a:
F9 : View Fax
cdd d:\zfax
zfaxg vf [%P]\[%F]
You can use 4 different macros in the commands.
[%F] will insert the currently highlighted file name into the command line,
[%P] the current path name,
[%D] the current drive.
[%T] in a command line executes the command once for each tagged file.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.5. The OS2COM.MSG ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The OS2COM.MSG has to be in the same directory as the OS2COM.EXE.
It contains a couple of messages that OS/2-Commander will show at specific
actions or errors. It is an ENGLISH.MSG available that contains the english
messages and a DEUTSCH.MSG that contains the German messages. If you prefer the
German language rename the DEUTSCH.MSG to OS2COM.MSG.
Please do not edit the *.MSG- files!
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.6. The Screen-Saver ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The screen saver is automaticaly activated after the number of minutes without
pressing a key defined on the OS2COM.INI. If defined as 0, the screen saver is
not activated. You can activate the screen saver immediately if you move the
mouse cursor to the upper right corner. If the mouse cursor is in the lower
left corner the screen saver is deactivated.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.7. Archive-Files ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The OS/2-Commander has an integrated Archive-Viewer.
Archives are showed like normal directories. Inside an archive you can view,
copy, move and delete files. It can handle the archive types ZIP, LHZ, ARJ,
ZOO, ARC, SQZ and RAR and the self-extracting archives of ZIP, LZH and ARJ.
With a definition in the OS2COM.INI it is possible to use every other arcer.
The following programs are needed to use the archive-viewer:
ARJ: "ARJ.EXE" from Robert K. Jung and the OS/2-version "UNARJ.EXE".
The OS/2-version is only used for unpacking if you want to unpack all files and
didn't give them a target directory. That's because UNARJ don't support any
interesting command line switches. Otherwise ARJ (DOS) will be used.
LZH: LH/2 from Peter Fitzsimmons (OS/2-version).
ZIP: The above defined programs ZIP/UNZIP for OS/2 from InfoZip.
ARC: The OS/2-version 6.0 "ARC2.EXE" from SEA.
ZOO: The OS/2-version 2.1 with above defined name from Rahul Dhesi.
SQZ: The DOS-version 1.08.3 from J. Hammarberg.
RAR: The DOS-version 1.51 from Eugene Roshal.
The OS/2-Commander will detect archives files with a different than the
standard-extension. When pressing ENTER e.g. on a ZIP-file with the extension
".SA0" OS2COM will detect a ZIP-archive and start the archive-viewer.
To get full advantage of the archive functions you have to configure the arcer
in the OS2COM.INI!
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. Problems and known bugs ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This section describes known problems and how to solve them.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.1. Program termination / SYS3175 ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Sometimes OS/2-Commander terminates without any message or with SYS3175 when
working inside an archive, e.g. when trying to view or copy a file, or when
starting the external viewer or editor. This seems to be a memory problem, no
specific rules to reproduces this could be found yet.
You can solve/avoid the problem by defining the name of the archive programs or
the viewer/editor without the extension. Then a different function to start the
external arcer is used and the problem will not occur.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.2. External editor/viewer doesn't work ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
If you define a DOS- or WPS program as your external editor or viewer, you have
to strip the extension from the definition!
If you define the program with extension, a different and much faster method to
start the program is used, but this doesn't work with DOS programs or programs
running on the WPS. Strip the extension and it will work.

I'm looking for a temporary (perhaps 1 or 2 years) job in the USA, Canada,
Australia, New Zealand or South Africa!
Not absolutely as a programmer, I studied information business at the Business
Academy of Schleswig-Holstein and would also appreciate a job in this branch of
business.
I would appreciate any help from people in these countries or from companies in
Germany that have contacts, a parent company, affiliated company or a branch in
one of these countries!
If there's anybody who can help me, please contact me!
Thank you very much in advance.
