  3. INSTALLATION

  5. Copy nr2v109.zip to the ~\tcpip directory and unzip.
  6. For pkunzip be sure to use the -d flag to honor directories.
  7. The following files will be unzipped

  36. The files nr2.exe and nr2.hlp will be installed in the bin and help
  37. directories.

  42. NewsReader v1.07 includes several new functions and many bug fixes.  Major
  43. new function includes:
  44.  
  45. multiple user support:  NR/2 resources such as application configuration,
  46.                          newsgroup subscription lists, signature files, etc...
  47.                          are maintained on a per-user basis.  The files
  48.                          which store these resources no longer reside in
  49.                          ~\tcpip\etc but can be found in
  50.                          ~\tcpip\etc\rnspool\userid where userid is the
  51.                          Advantis user id or the nickname field in SLIP-PM.
  52.  
  53. multiple server support: Because article index numbers usually differ for the
  54.                           same newsgroups on different newsservers, switching
  55.                           newsservers can cause problems with the subscription
  56.                           list.  NR/2 now provides separate resources per server
  57.                           so that a separate subscription list is maintained for
  58.                           each.     
  59.  
  60. new printing ability:     Previously, NR/2 print support was only for logical
  61.                           ports - LPTn, COMn.  Printing is now performed via
  62.                           printer objects so that named pipes LPDn and other
  63.                           network printing resources can be used.

  66. Major bug fixes include:

  68. Optional keep alive message: Earlier versions of NR/2 sent a frequent keep alive
  69.                                 message to maintain the connection to the news
  70.                                 server.  This is now an optional setting.  See
  71.  
  72.                                    Options->NewsReader->keep alive check box
  73.

  75. Save as problem:         Intermittently, posts of greater than 1000 lines
  76.                                 would be corrupted during saving near the
  77.                                 1000 line mark.

  79. There were also many minor interface changes and documentation changes.

  81. Compatibility with earlier versions
  82.  
  83. Because of multiple user support, the resource files used with earlier
  84. versions will not be used unless they are moved to the directory 
  85.

  88. The files which need to be copied (moved) from ~\tcpip\etc are NEWS.* and
  89. NR2.INI.  Signature files and block (kill) files located in ~\tcpip\etc\sig
  90. and ~\tcpip\etc\kill should also be moved to the sig and kill directories
  91. ~\tcpip\etc\rnspool\userid\sig and ~\tcpip\etc\rnspool\userid\kill.

  93. Non-Presentation Manager editors are no longer supported.  This was
  94. a decision made by our development team and is noted in the NR/2 v1.07
  95. on-line help.

  98. concurrently with the latest software release available via Advantis.

  111. Additions:
  112.  
  113. Multiple user support makes use of the Advantis user-id and the PM Dialer nickname
  114. field to uniquely identify users.  If you are using different nicknames to access
  115. the same account for reasons such as different phone numbers or different transport
  116. mechanisms note that NR/2 will treat each nickname as a different user.
  117.  
  118. The file sendmail.uml located in ~\tcpip\etc must also be copied to ~\tcpip\etc\rnspool\userid
  119. for mail forwarding to work in NR/2.
  120.  
  121. Use with LAN:  If you do not use SLIP or PPP but have an existing TCP/IP product NR/2
  122. will continue to function as before provided that you have the necessary DLL's shipped with
  123. WARP.  To use both SLIP or PPP and LAN you will need a copy of OS/2 Client which will be
  124. available early in '95.

  126. Printing: If you do not copy the resource files to a new directory be sure to set your printer
  127. in NewsReader->Configure->printer before printing.
