SUPER VGA EXTENDED TEXT MODE NOTES:
The "x" in card and chip models indicates a variable digit, applicable to
two or more model numbers which fit the pattern.
Only 132 column color modes are listed. Where more than one font size is
offered for a given resolution, the modes for larger fonts are shown.
If your video card is not listed, its chipset manufacturer or BIOS may be.
Microsoft's MSD.EXE program (included with MS-DOS 6.x and Windows 3.1) is
capable of identifying many common video adapters. Beware of the fact
that manufacturers implementing third-party chipsets may or may not choose
to implement the chipset's standard BIOS. If neither card nor chipset is
listed, you still may be able to use one or more of the VESA SuperVGA
modes (see table above, and note below).
Except as noted below, the modes listed above are for use with the
standard BIOS "set video mode" call: Interrupt 10h, AH = 00h, AL = mode.
* A few video cards use non-standard BIOS calls to implement extended modes,
including Everex, Vega and Video 7. ALLY automatically detects Everex,
Vega, and Video 7 and handles them appropriately.
** The VESA SuperVGA BIOS standard is implemented in most modern SVGA cards,
either directly in firmware or by running a VESA TSR program supplied by
the video card manufacturer. If you are unable to get ALLY working with
your video card's extended modes, try using a VESA mode. ALLY recognizes
any mode greater than or equal to 100 hexadecimal as a VESA mode. Not
every VESA mode listed above is available in every case, depending on the
video hardware and VESA implementation being used.
*** A number of OEMs manufacture boards with the S3 chipset, but don't count
on their BIOS implementations being the same. Check your specific video
card manual for extended mode numbers or use VESA modes. Note that
current S3 drivers for OS/2 do not support 132 column modes.
Some AutoCAD display list processor and video card combinations do not
tolerate video mode changes when "shelled" out from AutoCAD - video mode
changes should be avoided in such situations. If you load a VESA TSR
program to implement extended text modes, this must be done before AutoCAD
is loaded.
