  1. Help on Shelling

  3. The 'Shell' command is a very powerful but also very dangerous
  4. command. It allows the caller to run a DOS shell on the sys-
  5. tem, except that the caller receives the output, and the
  6. caller enters the keystrokes.   The caller has complete control
  7. of the HOST system at the DOS level.   Shell is a password
  8. and level protected feature of HOST2.  The caller sees program
  9. output only if the programs use standard DOS output. Programs
  10. that write directly to the video screen will work, but will not
  11. be seen by the remote caller. As well, programs that use non-DOS
  12. methods of getting keystrokes will not receive the caller's
  13. keystrokes. Finally, under some systems, if the caller presses
  14. Backspace at the DOS prompt when the current line is empty,
  15. DOS will hang on the Host machine. As these are functions of
  16. DOS, there is nothing that can be done about these limits.
