INTRODUCTION
To all Amigans,
If you're a NetConnect user, you undoubtedly use the excellent NetConnect dockbar.
Whilst it is very useful to have, it has one flaw, and that is that the icons supplied
with it are all of the MagicWB style. Even if you bought NC2 on CD, which has many
different icons, some even which are not MWB, they are still not NI standard. If you
have Iconian, you may be prepared to edit them, resize them, recolour them, and save
them out as NewIcons etc. This would be time consuming to you, however, so instead I
created NetIcons. Well, I didn't really create them, more like I just browsed through
old CDs off covers of AF and CU and looked through Aminet. In this archive there are
icons for most different apps you might need, some contain more than one icon per
application.
I have edited a lot of the icons to make them use the "action" frame of the icon by
default, because the icons in the NetConnect dock bar do not animate unfortunately 8o(
when clicked on. This is why if you look at some of the icons in Iconian or something
you might see that the second frame of the icon is not like the first frame, because
you'll never see that second frame anyway.
Some of the icons are still not 100% NI standard, for instance the some of the ICQ
icons are not the correct size, which will mean you get a bit of a gap between the
icons. If I have time, I will try to rectify this.
HOW TO INSTALL THEM
Load up NetConnect preferences, and enter the Icon Bar page. Double click on whatever
icons you wish to edit. Where it says "Image", navigate to where the icons of your
choice is. Click OK when it is done. If you navigated it correctly, it should show up
the NewIcon in the IconBar. Repeat for all your icons and click on Save!
REQUIREMENTS
- An Amiga running NC2
- NewIcons
- A proportional screensize, say 640x512 or 800x600. If enough people ask me, I will
also do a med-res version for people without a multiscan monitor who use 640x256.
- 5 bitplane (32 colour) Workbench minimum recommended, I use 64 colours.
THE FUTURE
I hope to add more icons as time goes on and improve on the ones that I have already
included, e.g. identical colour stands, more icons which conform 100% to NewIcons size.
IN RETURN
All that I ask in return for you using these icons is that you send me an email to
<eyesy@usa.net> to tell me what you thought of them and how I could improve them, it
wouldn't take you more than a couple of minutes to say "yeah, i think they're ok" or
"hmph, they suck, MWB FOREVER!".
Finally, thanks of course to all the artists who designed the icons in the first place
- if any of the authors of these icons has a problem with me including them then please
contact me and I'll remove them pronto. Also thanks to the NewIcons team for finally
doing something about the Amiga's icons system.

I have found a few more icons lying around and have added them to this archive, a few
more FTP icons, another phone one, etc. Tip : Copy these NewIcons onto the actual
program icon, so that if you iconify it (e.g. Whilst d/loading through AmFTP you may
iconify it to save space on your WB) you will get a nice NewIcon, not that scabby 4
colour one. Also this prevents the icons looking corrupted if you are using a
background picture.

No new icons IIRC =( but I have had to remove all the information within the icons
information because one of the authors of the icons emailed me complaining that I was
crediting someone else for their work. So, to avoid any more similar complaints, I've
just removed all of the information from the icons.
I'm off to Manchester Metropolitan University tomorrow, I live in London, so I won't
have access to my Amiga (at least not at first), so this'll be the last update for at
least a month. Cheerio!
