Welcome to Aquaricon !
Aquaricon is a collection of icons for use with NewIcons.
For maximum performance of Aquaricon, you must use a screen with at least 32
colors. If you use a 32 colors screen, you should use the LoadCMAP program to
lock the Workbench's palette to use aquaricon colors, otherwise the icons might
look ugly. I've included a preview for you to check if it is installed
correctly.
The intended use of aquaricon drawer colors:
Green: Games and demos.
Cyan: Programs / utilities.
Purple: Data
Orange: Projects
Grey: Misc.
ABOUT VERSION:
From v2.1, you may get the version of any aquaricon package, from the version of
this doc. Either by using the 'version' command from DOS or by a (WB) info, in
the comment field.
ABOUT MAGICWB COLORS:
The first and last four colors of the aquaricon palette is MagicWB compatible.
'Normal' icons saved with depth 8 or the current screen depth, will look as
normal magicwb icons. If saved with another depth, the 'normal' magicwb icons
will have wrong colors. I think there is a program called IconMiser that will
solve the problem.
Please note that icons saved in depth 8, takes up allmost twice as many bytes as
in depth 4.
ABOUT SCREENMODE:
Aquaricon is designed to use a (640x512) monitor (we like resolution). But should
look OK on any similar resolution like 1280x1024, 800x600 or 320x256 ;}
ABOUT NEWICON PREFS:
These icons are ment to look as polygons instead of squares. I recommend the use
of transparency option in newicons prefs, and allso no icon border.
ABOUT DEFAULT TOOL:
I'm trying use a standard on the default tool in project icons.
Samples: Play
Guides: Multiview
Pictures: Multiview (thanks to datatypes)
Text: More
DOS Scripts:C:IconX
Devices: C:Mount
Datatypes: C:AddDatatypes
If you would like to use another default tool, i recommend the use of either
MCP's toolalias function or making link from dos. If you would like to use
play16 instead of play, open a shell and type:
makelink from c:play to c:play16
This will cause dos to execute play16 instead of play. If you type list, you
might get the impression that it has the same size as the other file, but don't
be alarmed, it only takes up a block of 512 bytes.
You can allso use the alias function, but this need to be set up every time you
boot.
Note that if you use MCP and toolalias, the changes are done at loadtime, so
that if you manipulate an icon, for instance snapshoting it, the aliases will be
saved, overwriting the original tooltype. If you then distribute it, people will
have YOUR default tools instead of the amiga standard.
You might have experienced this while browsing a computer mag CD. You find a
textfile, double click it to find that it needs :C/AFCDVIEWER, leving you to
either copy their viewer, or more likely to changing the default tool to
something like 'More', then using your link to execute MuchMore (i recommend it
as it has an option to use only one bitplane, wich saves on chip-mem, and has a
faster display).
ABOUT UNSNAPSHOT:
The icons to use should be unsnapshoted. This will cause workbench to put the
icons un an available spot, instead of snapshoted wich will cause some icons to
appear ontop of eachother. Very anoying when that happens, as i will have to
cleanup the display or unsnapshoting and updating. So a little hint : At
least unsnapshot the main drawer to any programs you upload, and raise the
standard of amiga software.
ABOUT DIMENSIONS:
Aquaricon icons are 32 pixels high and the width is normaly divisable with 8.
A standard aquaricon icon is 32x32 pixels. I know this gives problems with
standard newicons, but i find 32 pixels a logical standard. It allso saves some
space on the harddisk and some pixels on the screen.
ABOUT LOADCMAP:
The complete LoadCMAP package is available from aminet :
LoadCMAP.lha (v1.3)
BUGS:
- When using another palette, some of the icons becomes nontransparent.
