  1. Thank you for choosing BookSaver. This screensaver will go through your 
  2. bookmarks and display them while you aren't working. All you need to do to use 
  3. it is go through a few simple set up steps.

  6. INSTALLING:

  9. 1. Unzip all of the files from the booksave.zip file into a new temporary 
  10. directory. Do this by using a zip utility program like EZ-Unzipper available at 
  11. http://www.gma-soft-tech.pair.com/.
  12.  
  13. 2. Double click on the "setup.exe" icon (it should get unzipped into the 
  14. temporary folder created in step 1). This will begin the setup application that 
  15. will install the BookSaver application. A setup screen will ask where you would 
  16. like to place the application files. Select a folder and click on the install 
  17. button. All necessary files will be placed on your computers hard disk.

  19. 3. When the setup application is completed you will be asked to restart your 
  20. computer. For best results you should restart it - but it will probably work 
  21. either way.
  22.  
  23. 4. Right click your mouse on the desktop. This will show a context menu with one 
  24. of the choices "properties" - select "properties". This will display the 
  25. "display properties" window. Select the "Screen Saver" tab on the top of the 
  26. window. Select "BookSaver" in the pull-down menu on the left half way down. 
  27. Enter a time in the "Wait" box. Click on the "Settings" button to configure the 
  28. screensaver.

  30. You are now ready to configure your screensaver.

  32. CONFIGURING:

  34. 1. Adding Bookmarks. This is the one thing that you must do for the screensaver 
  35. to work. The table on the left shows what bookmarks you have added. Click on the 
  36. "Import Bookmarks" button to import your bookmark file. An open file dialog box 
  37. will be displayed. Select your bookmark file and click the Open button. (The 
  38. bookmark file for Netscape is named bookmark.htm and is typically in the 
  39. c:\program files\Netscape\Navigator directory) Your bookmarks will be added to 
  40. the table on the left. The "Refresh Bookmarks" button will delete all bookmarks 
  41. and import new ones.

  43. 2. Deleting: You can click the "Delete Selected Site" to delete just one site, 
  44. or "Delete All" to delete all of them.
  45.  
  46. 3. You can type an URL into the textbox and click the "Add this Site" button to 
  47. add any site to your list. 
  48.  
  49. 4. The Automatic Slowdown feature slows the refresh rate to 30 minutes after the 
  50. screensaver has been on for an hour. The default setting is enabled, and that is 
  51. recommended to conserve network resources. Without this feature enabled, and the 
  52. refresh rate set at 15 seconds you would download 3840 pages in a 16 hour night!

  54. 5. The Page Refresh Rate is how long each bookmark will be displayed. We 
  55. recommend at least 45 seconds for a modem connection.
  56.  
  57. 6. The size of the browser window can be adjusted in the Browser Size pull-down 
  58. menu.
  59.  
  60. 7. A color for the background can be selected by clicking on the Background 
  61. Color button.
  62.  
  63. 8. For sites with password authentication enter your User ID and Password next 
  64. to the URL in the table on the left.
  65.

  67. USING THE SCREENSAVER:

  69. The screensaver will appear after several minutes (depending what your settings 
  70. are) of inactivity on your computer. You may exit the screensaver at anytime by 
  71. pressing the mouse, pressing any key except "b" or "c" or by pressing the "Quit" 
  72. button. The "b" key or the "browse" button stops the screensaver, and allows you 
  73. to browse from the current bookmark. When you are done browsing, you can then 
  74. continue the screensaver where it left off by pressing the "continue" button, or 
  75. press "quit" to exit. The "c" key or "configure" button allows you to pause the 
  76. screensaver and configure it.

  79. LIMITATIONS AND CONFLICTS:

  81. 1. Browser does not handle frames, Java, or ActiveX. This will be included in 
  82. future upgrades.
  83.  
  84. 2. There can be conflicts with some sites that give "cookies." We are trying to 
  85. debug this component and expect major progress by the next release. A work-
  86. around to the problem is to remove sites known to have cookies. Look to our web 
  87. page for progress on this.

  92. 1. Addition of frame capability, and Java for the browser.

  94. 2. Ability to delete site from your list while the screensaver is running.
