Transcription: In 1690, by the great power of gold, a painter named Giuseppe Goetzli acquired a remarkable manuscript. It concerned the weight and motion of the waters and was composed, written and illustrated by the illustrious painter and geometrician, Leonardo da Vinci. An inscription identified its former owner as Guilherme della Porta, a sculptor who had died in 1577. For more than a hundred years, it had lain unnoticed in a locked chest.
