And it's very tantalizing to think that somewhere in the process of putting this codex together, Leonardo had the idea that if he framed the study of hydraulics engineering in the bigger science of cosmology as part of the study of the sphere of the planet Earth and its covering of water and its relationship to the other celestial spheres, that he would give a kind of status and universality to the problem.
