In Crystal Structures & Phases:
Is indium really face centred tetragonal, as Emsley says?
As there is only a body centred tetragonal Bravais lattice! , no fc tetr!
Which is the lowest temperature phase of gallium?
Emsley says gallium has three phases, alpha - orthorhombic
beta - rhombic
and gamma - rhombic
and a gamma to alpha transition of 238K
but which is the lowest temperature phase,
the alpha or the gamma?
Why does Emsley quote many phases as being 'rhombic'. Rhombic is not one
of the 14 Bravais lattices. Does he mean Rhombohedral or orthorhombic?
I have presumed he means rhombohedral (apart from one mentioned above where I
think a more appropriate description would be monoclinic since it has a non-90
degree angle)
If he means rhombohedral, then why does he persist in calling them 'rhombic'?
