Acknowledgments
---------------
Rhapsody has been compiled using Silicon Vision's RiscBASIC Compiler
and contains a fully licensed binary image of the RiscBASIC runtime
Libraries. The RiscBASIC runtime libraries are the copyrighted property of
Silicon Vision Limited. 'RiscBASIC' is a trademark of Silicon Vision
Limited.
The modules, Floating Point Emulator, ColourTrans, Sound Scheduler,
IRQUtils and MessageTrans included in the !System directory are copyright of
Acorn Computers Limited, as is the !SysMerge application.
We would like to thank Casio and Roland for their assistance.
We should like to thank J.Worthington for his arrangement of 'Strike up
the Band' by Gershwin.
!System and !SysMerge
---------------------
Several modules are required by Rhapsody, some of which you may have
early versions of, or not possess at all. In order to avoid unnecessary
duplication and confusion, it is important that you only keep one copy of
!System in regular use and that it is kept up to date. To do this, run the
!SysMerge application and follow the instructions displayed. When you have
done this, you should delete !System and !SysMerge from your working
Rhapsody disc.
!Config
-------
This program enables you to setup various default options which are
stored in a file and used every time Rhapsody is loaded. It is probable that
you will never wish to use it but if you habitually use a different MIDI
beat, or you wish to use more than 24 staves, then you can do so.
One word of warning; if you increase the maximum number of staves or
the maximum number of formatted lines, you may need to allocate more memory
to Rhapsody. If you obtain the error message 'Not enough memory' or
'Wimpslot settings too small' on loading Rhapsody, then you will have to
increase the memory setting in the !Config file. The values are Small,
Normal, Large and Huge.
Use of !Voices
--------------
If you try to play any of the pieces on this disc, you will probably be
told that '...some of the staves do not have voices installed.' The
Archimedes has 9 default voices but they are rather limiting. If you wish to
play the pieces using the internal voices for which they are designed, you
must first load the extra voices provided. To do this, simply double click
on the !Voices icon.
These voices were created using VoxSynth, VoxSample and VoxBeat, a
suite of three new voice generating programs available from Clares Micro
Supplies.
Rhapsody II uses voice names instead of voice numbers. The !Voices
application supplied will work for the pieces on the program disc but you
may need to alter the allotted voices on your older scores if you are using
the new voices. Alternatively you can use the old voices with your old
scores. If you have already loaded the new voices you should first erase
them by double clicking on !Voices with <Shift> held down and then double
clicking on 'NoVoices'. You can now load the old voices.
Sound Quality
-------------
Obviously the quality of the sound will be greatly increased by the use
of headphones or a HI-FI system. You can obtain a lead from your local
electrical store to connect the Archimedes to the standard Acorn monitor.
Ask for a 3.5mm stereo jack to two phono plugs. On the original Acorn
monitors you can only use one phono plug as the monitor only has one
socket. You have to experiment to find out which of the two plugs to use.
Don't forget that the monitor has a volume control behind the flip down
panel at the front. The lead should cost no more than ú3.
New features of Rhapsody 1.25 and above
---------------------------------------
Rhapsody 1.25 has a new feature which allows you to move or copy notes
on the stave. If you drag a note using Select, you can move it up or down.
If you drag with Adjust, you can copy the note.
