ABOUT TAROT 2: This is a program to
aid in learning about and working
with the Tarot. The Tarot is an
ancient knowledge which takes the form
of a deck of 78 cards. Each card has
on it symbols which contain more
information than words could ever
convey. These cards can be read in
sequence like a book or they can be
combined in various spreads to
interact with one another and produce
new interpretations. One use of the
Tarot is for the purpose of divination
or fortune telling. I won't go into
detail on the Tarot as there are many
excellent books on the subject. In
this program you can manipulate the
cards just like a regular deck. You
can shuffle the deck, deal out cards,
face up or down, and place the cards
wherever you like. You can even load
up a predefined spread so that the
cards will automatically go into
the correct position when you deal
them. This program also acts as a
database of information on many items
including the individual cards, the
suits, the spreads and many other
things. you can edit any of the files
that are viewed in the built-in text
editor. Also you can save and restore
any of the layouts you are working
with including any comments you would
like to append.
There are two main modes with this
program, the card manipulation mode in
which you deal out and move the cards,
and interpretation mode in which you
can get an interpretation of the cards
that have been dealt. Many features in
the program can be user-defined; the
colors for example. You can get help
at any time within the program by
pressing <F1>. Which help file comes
up depends on where you are in the
program. Below is a list of the files
and what they are about. Read these
files either in the program or in
your favorite text editor to find out
how to run this program most
effectively. If you are used to GUI's
you shouldn't have any problems.
INSTALLATION: To install this
program first create a subdirectory on
your hard drive and copy all of the
files to it. You now must unzip the
file T2.EXE and one of the CARD*.EXE
files. You can't unzip all of the
CARD*.EXE files as they contain files
of the same names. They are just
different resolutions. Run
CARD_EGA.EXE for EGA cards. Run
CARD_16.EXE for 16 color cards for VGA
and SVGA and run CARD_256.EXE for 256
color cards for SVGA.
These files are self-extracting so
just type their name once you are in
the subdirectory where you copied
them. Don't extract them on the floppy
as there won't be enough room.
To start the program type T2SW. An
opening screen will appear showing
the hardware and mode that has been
detected. These can be changed if they
are incorrect by pressing the keys
mentioned and then choosing the
correct item from the list. You can
bypass this opening menu by typing
on the command line (after the name
of the program)"-;" and then "-code"
(don't type in the quotation marks)
e.g. T2SW -; -code
where code represents the code to the
left of the display type or input
device in one of the two lists. You
have to go thru the menus at least
once to get the code to use as the
command line parameter for the mode
you want to use.
For example to start in 640x480 256
color mode with an ATI color card you
would type "T2SW -; -A:6" . If the
program automatically detects
everything correctly you can leave off
the second parameter, e.g. "T2SW -;".
The -; bypasses the start-up menus.
Once you are in the program hit the
<F1> key before anything else to bring
up the first help file. This file will
tell you how to get around and how to
get help on the other features of the
program.
FILES: you should have the following
files in addition to this file.
T2.EXE: Self-extracting zip file.
Help.1 - This file gives help on keys
and the mouse and using the text
editor. Read this file before the
other help files. Also called KEYS
help in the program.
Help.2 - Help on items in the FILE
menu.
Help.3 - Help on items in the DECK
menu.
Help.4 - Help on items in the SPREAD

dignity ( See DEFINE SPREAD in SPREAD
help).
Fifteen.* - Where * is spr,1,2,3,4,5

fifteen card spread supplied with
the program. Fifteen.spr is the file
which controls the spread. Fifteen.79
is a text file which describes the
spread and the rest are the
interpretations for each of the five
groups in the spread (see SPREAD
help). When you register you will
get more spreads. You can also
define your own.
Sample.t - This is a sample of a
layout that has been saved.

loaded.
Register.doc - This is information on
how to register and what you will get.
T2SW.EXE - This is the program itself.
CARD*.EXE: Where * is _EGA for EGA,
_16 for VGA (16 color) and _256 for

Pal.pcx - This is used to set the
color palette for the cards.
The program also creates some files
when it runs. It creates some
temporary files which it deletes when
it ends normally and also some files
which save the configuration of the
program so it can start up again the
same way it ended. The temp files are
*U.tmp where * is a number from 1 - 79
The config files are:
Deck.cfg - Which saves the order of
the deck. You don't have to start out
with a fresh deck that you have to
shuffle many times to randomize.
Tarot.cfg - Which saves various options
like the colors and the names of the
suits etc.
Comt.tmp - Which saves the last
comment typed in before you quit.

The images of the Tarot cards are
based on the Aleister Crowley Thoth
Tarot Deck which is published by:
U.S. Games Systems, Inc.

This program was designed to be used
in conjunction with an actual Tarot
deck as even the Super VGA cards don't
do justice to the real thing. The
Thoth deck contains incredible imagery
and is an excellant choice if you are
considering buying a deck.
The interpretations are based on the
Golden Dawn's and Crowley's Tarot
interpretations.
More decks and interpretations are
included in the registered version
of this software. See REGISTER.DOC
for more information.
