Transcription: We saw the rocks drawn aside like curtains and a fathomless void opened up before us. The sea became one giant wave which was carrying us into the abyss. Nothing could be heard but the bellowing of the water and we clung together on the raft in utter silence. I soon realised what had happened. The explosion had set off a kind of earthquake and the gulf it had opened up was about to swallow the inland sea, now transformed into a mighty river and was carrying us with it. This time we were really lost.
