Transcription: In my wildest imagination, I would never have conjured up such a scene. The sea! The sea! I cried. A vast expanse of water spread before us until it was lost in the distance. The tremendous vault over our heads, the sky so to speak, appeared to consist of clouds of swirling water papers. Electric currents created astonishing plays of light among them reflected on the enormous cliffs that reared up on all sides. But for me, the effect was sad and melancholy. For I realized that far above those clouds, there must be a heavy roof of granite weighing down on us.
