Overall, the symptoms that appeared in the first month are intensified during the second month.
The mother may suffer significant emotional changes, partly due to the esteroidal hormones that increase during pregnancy, and which act on the central nervous system. Among others, the most frequent symptoms are: irritability, changing humor, insecurity, fear, and an inexplicable desire to cry. Many of these symptoms are related to the general ambience in which the gestation develops.
There are also some symptoms of a digestive origin, such as increase in salivation, heartburn, constipation and abdominal distention. The intestinal walls undergo a relaxation due to the high levels of progesterone present during pregnancy.
Other symptoms that are a characteristic of this period are: headaches, tension in the breasts, increase tension in the vascular system, pigmentation of the areola, and development of the sebaceous glands around the nipple.
If a non-pregnant woman or a man were to suffer from all the symptons that correspond to pregnancy, they would feel very sick indeed. However, this set of symptoms affects the pregnant woman in a different manner, producing curiosity and surprise rather than feelings of illness.
