SPHERES OF CHAOS
------------------
A text adventure by Chris Grant
This game has taken a lot of time and effort to write, and so I would
appreciate it if you didn't alter the 'Spheres' program file. However, I
have tried to lay out the program in as structured a way as possible so
it is easy to understand how it works. Feel free to implement any of the
ideas or pieces of BASIC code in your own adventure games - after all,
what's the point of giving you the game for nothing and then not letting
you use it for what it is?
This is actually the first serious attempt I have had at writing a
decent program (if it's worthy of being called decent) and I'm very
pleased with the result (I hope you are too). At the moment I'm
struggling to produce anything extra special in BASIC, so if you look at
the 'Spheres' program you'll see how simple it all is. I decided against
a scrolltext anywhere in the program for two reasons: 1) They take so
long to scroll past that very few people canbe bothered to read them and
so it's a pointless exercise, and (2) I probably wouldn't even be able
to code one anyway!
If you like the adventure, and would like me to make another one, please
do write to me with any comments, suggestions or ideas for another
game. Don't expect a reply if you send a whole list of bugs in the
program, although ideas for improvements are most welcome. My address is
at the end of this help file.
Anyway, to the game itself. There's little I can say about it, as most
of it is written in the Background and Instruction sections when you
load up the main program. Just enjoy it, and try to resist the
temptation of looking in the code for some ideas until you've actually
completed the game. There are 250 locations in all, but I'm sure you'll
get used to the map quickly. It's fairly easy, and a competent
adventurer should have no difficulties.
I must give special thanks to Simon, my brother, for being so patient
with my hogging the computer all the time and playtesting the game for
me. Also, I should thank my Mum and Dad for paying the electricity bill
(I hope!). I give my regards to Stephen Mander as well, whose original
'Realms of Madness' adventure was the initial prompt for me to make this
program, and whose code I scoured carefully for ways of implementing
certain features of my game, although I only used his ideas and not the
code itself. Finally, thanks to everyone who's ever known me...If you
can't remember who I am I'm the one whodecided to...but that's another
story.
Oh, and I must thank YOU for actually reading this far.
As promised, here's my address:

Enjoy the game, and good luck, although it shouldn't take you that long.
