  81.        installed if you use the ``go'' menu item.  To install a
  82.        different set of subsystems, use the ``install,''
  83.        ``remove,'' ``keep,'' and ``step'' commands in _i_n_s_t to
  84.        customize the list of subsystems to be installed, then
  85.        select the ``go'' menu item.

  110.        All of the subsystems for SoftWindows2 can be installed
  111.        using IRIX.  You do not need to use the miniroot. Refer to
  112.        the _I_R_I_S _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _G_u_i_d_e for complete
  113.        installation instructions.

  134.        2.4  _P_r_e_r_e_q_u_i_s_i_t_e_s

  136.        Your workstation must be running at least release IRIX 5.3
  137.        or IRIX 6.1 in order to use Release 2.0 of this product.
  138.        IRIX 5.2 and 6.0 will not install this version.
  139.        SoftWindows2 is no longer supported on processors predating
  140.        the R4000.

  142.        2.5  _C_o_m_p_a_t_i_b_i_l_i_t_y
  143.  
  144.        SoftWindows 2.0 uses a different scheme than previous
  145.        versions of SoftWindows to store the C: drive container
  146.        file.  If users are upgrading from a previous version of
  147.        SoftWindows, then an upgraded version of their current
  148.        container file will be created in their home directory.
  149.        This updated container file will be named WIN311-
  150.        <username>.hdf.  Users who upgrade their container file will
  151.        be given the option of deleting their old container file to
  152.        conserve space.

  154.        2.6  _C_o_n_f_i_g_u_r_a_t_i_o_n__F_i_l_e_s
  155.  
  156.        This section lists installed files that can be edited to
  157.        contain site-specific changes.

  159.        SoftWindows2 maintains a system configuration file
  160.        /_u_s_r/_l_i_b/_S_o_f_t_W_i_n_d_o_w_s_2/_s_y_s._s_w_i_n_2_c_o_n_f_i_g.  This file can be
  161.        used to effect the operational behavior of all users running
  162.        SoftWindows2 on the system.

  164.        The file /_u_s_r/_l_i_b/_S_o_f_t_W_i_n_d_o_w_s_2/_s_w_i_n__h_i_n_t_s__v_i_e_w_e_d contains a
  165.        list of users that have seen the swin_hints file.  If the
  166.        swin_hints file is changed, you can empty the viewed file so
  167.        that users will see the new swin_hints the next time they
  168.        run SoftWindows2

  170.        2.7  _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_i_n_g__F_r_e_n_c_h__a_n_d__G_e_r_m_a_n__v_e_r_s_i_o_n_s

  172.        Follow these steps to install the French or German version
  173.        of Microsoft Windows:
  174.  
  175.        1.  Run inst or Software Manager as for a standard
  176.        installation of SoftWindows.
  177.        2.  Make sure the subsystem _S_o_f_t_W_i_n_d_o_w_s_2._l_a_n_g._g_e_r_m_a_n or
  178.        _S_o_f_t_W_i_n_d_o_w_s_2._l_a_n_g._f_r_e_n_c_h is marked for installation.
  179.        3.  Install.
  180.        4.  Go to the directory /_u_s_r/_l_i_b/_S_o_f_t_W_i_n_d_o_w_s_2.
  181.        5.  Rename the directory _w_i_n_d_o_w_s to _w_i_n_d_o_w_s._b_a_k.
  182.        6.  Rename the file _s_y_s._d_i_s_k_d_a_t_a to _s_y_s._d_i_s_k_d_a_t_a._b_a_k.

  197.        7.  For the French installation, move the file
  198.        _s_y_s._d_i_s_k_d_a_t_a._f_r_n to _s_y_s._d_i_s_k_d_a_t_a, or for the German
  199.        installation, move _s_y_s._d_i_s_k_d_a_t_a._g_e_r to _s_y_s._d_i_s_k_d_a_t_a.
  200.        8.  Rename _w_i_n_d_o_w_s._f_r_n (or _w_i_n_d_o_w_s._g_e_r for the German
  201.        version) to _w_i_n_d_o_w_s.
  202.        9.  If you have a hard drive file (.hdf file) in your home
  203.        directory named _W_I_N_3_1_1-<_u_s_e_r_n_a_m_e>._h_d_f, rename it to
  204.        something else.
  205.        10.  Start SoftWindows2 and it will create a new hard drive
  206.        for you with the new language installed.
