  10.        This chapter lists the changes to 4Dwm since the previous
  11.        release.

  13.           +o Minimized window stacking order among the managed
  14.             windows is now remembered on a per desk basis.
  15.  
  16.           +o A new resource, SG_iconAutoPlaceUnique has been added.
  17.             The default behavior is that 4Dwm will try not to
  18.             auto-place a new icon where another current client has
  19.             been iconified.  This is not on a per desk basis.
  20.  
  21.           +o Session management now remembers the location of
  22.             minimized window icons that are on the root window (not
  23.             in the iconbox).

  25.           +o The following are features added during or prior to
  26.             IRIX 6.1:

  28.           +o Silicon Graphics is happy to announce that the "Desks
  29.             Overview" dispute has been successfully resolved. The
  30.             Desks Overview and 4Dwm no longer check for the Desks
  31.             license.

  33.           +o 4Dwm is based on the Motif 1.2.4 version of _m_w_m.  This
  34.             includes some support for internationalization.  See
  35.             the Motif release notes for new features that were
  36.             integrated into 4Dwm from _m_w_m.

  38.           +o 4Dwm can save a session on reboot if the desktop system
  39.             shutdown tools are used, such as the toolchest System-
  40.             >"System Shutdown".

  42.           +o The default values of some resources have been changed.
  43.             Some of these resources are:  clientAutoPlace,
  44.             interactivePlacement, wMenuButtonClick,
  45.             doubleClickTime.  If the doubleClickTime is not
  46.             explicitly set, it should use the value of
  47.             multiClickTime which can be set through the toolchest
  48.             Desktop->Customize->Mouse panel.  Backgrounds are
  49.             turned on the 4Dwm command line in the desktop
  50.             Xsession.dt file, otherwise backgrounds are off by
  51.             default and can be turned on by setting the
  52.             SG_useBackgrounds resource to True.

  54.           +o "Quit" in Window menu has become "Exit".

  56.           +o The 4Dwm dialogs have been removed from the overlay
  57.             planes.  We wanted to use more colors than are
  58.             available on all systems there.

  74.           +o 4Dwm expects to run with schemes turned on.  If schemes
  75.             are turned off 4Dwm colors may need to be set
  76.             explicitly, especially colors for the overlay planes.

  78.           +o On some systems, the 4Dwm icons will share the same
  79.             colormap as the desktop.  This is an attempt at further
  80.             reducing colormap flashing.  Also, the reading of the
  81.             IRIS image format icon files has been improved.

  83.           +o Session management startup has been improved.

  85.           +o The following are features added during or prior to
  86.             IRIX 5.2:

  88.           +o Desks functionality has been added to 4Dwm.  Desks
  89.             allows the user to organize windows into related groups
  90.             called ``desks.''  The toolchest entry ``Desktop->Desks
  91.             Overview'' invokes the user interface controls needed
  92.             to use desks easily and effectively.  See the 4Dwm man
  93.             page for more information on desks.

  95.           +o Some additional session management functionality has
  96.             been added to 4Dwm.  In its default configuration, 4Dwm
  97.             will attempt to save command lines for windows that are
  98.             on your display.  Then, when you log in again, 4Dwm
  99.             will attempt to execute these commands.  4Dwm only
  100.             attempts to execute these commands if the -_l_a_u_n_c_h
  101.             option is specified on the 4Dwm command line.  See the
  102.             toolchest Desktop->Customize->Windows control panel, as
  103.             well as the 4Dwm man page, for more information.

  105.           +o Screen background management has been added to 4Dwm.
  106.             It switches the screen backgrounds automatically when
  107.             the user switches desks, and it communicates to the
  108.             file manager when icons are on the background, so the
  109.             file manager can maintain the background. Whether or
  110.             not 4Dwm manages backgrounds is controlled by setting
  111.             the SG_useBackgrounds resource to True or to False.
