  1. Background Information

  3. Sounds are made by
  4. vibrating objects. When an
  5. object moves back and
  6. forth, it creates sound
  7. waves in the air. As the
  8. object moves outward, the
  9. air around it gets pressed
  10. together. When the object
  11. moves inward, the air
  12. around it moves apart.  
  13.  
  14. Sound waves can be
  15. represented as a curved
  16. line,or wave. A crest is a
  17. high point of the sound
  18. wave. A trough is a low
  19. point of the sound wave.
  20.  
  21. Each sound produces a
  22. different pattern of vibrations. When two
  23. soundsare mixed together,
  24. the patterns mix together
  25. to forma new pattern.
  26. When two crests meet,
  27. they form a bigger crest.
  28. When two troughs meet,
  29. they form a bigger trough.
  30. And when part of a crest
  31. and part of a trough meet,
  32. they create smaller crests
  33. and troughs.
