The ailerons are hinged at the front of the wing. When the one aileron goes up, the other aileron goes down. When making a right turn, the pilot raises the right aileron and lowers the left aileron. This causes the plane to bank to the right. When making a left turn, the pilot raises the left aileron and lowers the right one. This makes the plane bank to the left.
