Description
~~~~~~~~~~~
GCHD is a hypertext reference of the most commonly used guitar chords.
5 chords are available in each of the 12 keys. These are the guitarist
"workhorses"; the major, seventh, minor, minor seventh, and major 7th.
Each chord is shown in three different positions on the fingerboard.
A total of 60 chords are included (12 keys, 5 chords, 3 positions).
GCHD utilizes hypertext for fast, easy movement between chords. Each
screen is fully menued and user intuitive. The help system provides
explanations of all aspects of GCHD.
Chords may be marked and later played back in sequence with GCHD's
"forward" and "back" commands. It can be used with any monitor
(monochrome to VGA), and screen mode is automatically detected. Mouse
supported, but not required.
Chords
~~~~~~
The selected chord that chord will be displayed on the screen showing
3 possible position for that chord on the guitar.
The chord is identified first by it's symbol (Such as C, B#7, Gbmaj7)
then by its full name (such as C Major, B# Seventh, Gb Major Seventh).
The spelling are the notes which make up the chord and at what
intervals they occur in the diatonic major scale of the key.
NOTE: Due to the limitations of the ASCII character set, a flat note
is indicated by a 'b' (lower-case B).
The guitar fingerboard is displayed in 3 sections showing the
positions where the chord can be played. The left-most string is the
6th string (E). The head of the guitar is at the top, the bridge is
at the bottom.
Numbers to the left of the 6th string are the fret positions (frets
indicated by double lines).
The numbers in parenthesis tell you where to place your fingers. (O)
indicates optional fingering that may be used, (X) indicates strings
that are not played.
In addition, you may position the cursor on any symbol of this screen
and press enter (or click with the mouse). Context-sensitive help will
display full details of the symbol's meaning, and return you back to
the same chord when done.
Mark and Playback
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Using the "Mark chord" command (by activating the link on the chord
screen, or pressing "M"), you can place a bookmark on any chord
displayed, and continue exploring other chords. To go back to the
last bookmark placed, press "B" (for back). Each time you press "B"
GCHD will take you further back through the marked chords in order of
latest to earliest. Pressing "F" (for forward) moves you forward
through the marked chords.
By default, up to 7 bookmarks can be placed. This can be changed by
using the following command - line option when first calling GCHD:
GCHD10 -t <Card history size> <BM History size>
For Example:
GCHD10 -t 25 10
Gives you 10 bookmarks.
