  13. NOTE: If you are reading this file during setup you need to close
  14.       this file to finish setup.

  17. FIRST THINGS FIRST
  18. ==================
  19.  
  20. Before following these instructions make sure the Server PC
  21.  
  22. * uses Windows 95/NT/98 PC
  23. * has a modem and Dial-Up Networking installed
  24. * the Dial-Up Networking on the Server PC can connect to your 
  25.   ISP (Internet Service Provider)
  26. * you can browse the Internet from the Server PC
  27. * operate TCP/IP (IPX/SPX ro Net BEUI will not affect RideWay)
  28. * has a network interface (or LAN Card) installed

  39. STEP 1 Configuring TCP/IP For the Server PC
  40. ===========================================

  42. * On a Windows 95 PC, click "Start" 
  43. * Click "Settings" 
  44. * Click "Control Panel" 
  45. * Double-click "Network"
  46.  
  47. Under the "Configuration" tab, check if TCP/IP is installed. 
  48. If "TCP/IP" appears somewhere in "The following network components 
  49. are installed" box, then it is installed. Otherwise follow these 
  50. steps to install TCP/IP software.

  52. * Click "Add" 
  53. * Double-click "Protocol" 
  54. * Under "Manufacturers, click "Microsoft" 
  55. * Click "TCP/IP"
  56. * Click "OK"
  57.  
  58. You should now be brought back to the "Configuration" tab.

  60. * Double-click "TCP/IP->your LAN Card".
  61.  
  62. When the TCP/IP properties for the LAN card appears,
  63.  
  64. * Click "IP Address" tab
  65. * Click "Specify an IP address" 
  66. * In "IP Address", Enter "192.168.1.1" 
  67. * In "Subnet Mask", Enter "255.255.255.0" 
  68. * Click "DNS Configuration" tab
  69. * Click "Disable DNS"
  70. * Click "OK"

  72. You should now be brought back to the "Configuration" tab.

  74. * Double-click "TCP/IP->Dial-Up adapter".
  75. * Click "IP Address" tab
  76. * Click "Obtain an IP address automatically"
  77. * Click "OK"
  78. * Click "OK" again

  80. Windows 95 will now tell you that "You must restart your computer 
  81. before the new settings will take effect. Do you want to restart 
  82. your computer now?" Click "Yes".

  85. STEP 2 Installing RideWay on the Server PC
  86. ==========================================
  87.  
  88. Before installing RideWay on the Server PC make sure there is no 
  89. previous version of RideWay installed. If there is a version of 
  90. RideWay already installed you should uninstall it first. Otherwise 
  91. the newly installed RideWay may not be able to operate properly. 
  92. Follow these instructions to check if a version of RideWay is 
  93. currently installed.

  95. * From "Control Panel", double-click "Add/Remove Program"
  96. * Under the "Install/Uninstall" tab, if RideWay appears then it 
  97.   is installed.

  99. If RideWay is currently installed, uninstall it by
  100.  
  101. * Click "RideWay ..."
  102. * Click "Add/Remove"
  103. * Under "Confirm File Deletion", click "Yes"
  104.  
  105. To install RideWay
  106.  
  107. * Double-click rideway-setup.exe
  108. * Follow the instructions on your screen to install RideWay
  109.  
  110. To start RideWay
  111.  
  112. * On the desktop, click "Start"
  113. * Select "Programs"
  114. * Select "RideWay ..."
  115. * Click "RideWay"
  116.  
  117. The screen should read,
  118.  
  119. "RideWay Dialer is not connected"
  120. "RideWay Server is not running"
  121.  
  122. To set up RideWay
  123.  
  124. * Click "Dialer" 
  125. * Click "Dialer Control..." 
  126. * In "Default Connection", choose the Dial-Up Networking entry 
  127.   for your ISP 
  128. * Under "Redial", set to your preferences
  129. * If you want to use "On-demand dialing", check the box and set 
  130.   your preferences. "On-demand dialing" allows your client PCs 
  131.   to send requests for the Server PC to initiate a connection 
  132.   when the Server PC is not connected to your ISP. 
  133. * Click "OK" 
  134. * Back at the RideWay main screen, click "Server" 
  135. * Click "Server Control"
  136. * You need to enter the "DNS Servers" provided by your ISP. 
  137.   If you do not have them, please contact your ISP and ask them 
  138.   for the DNS servers 
  139. * Click "Add" and enter DNS servers' IP addresses
  140. * Click "OK"
  141. * Click "OK" again to go back to the RideWay main screen
  142. * Click "Server"
  143. * Click "Start"
  144. It will now read, "The RideWay Server is running"

  147. STEP 3 Configuring TCP/IP for Client PCs
  148. ========================================

  150. * On a Windows 95 PC, click "Start" 
  151. * Click "Settings" 
  152. * Click "Control Panel" 
  153. * Double-click "Network"

  155. Under the "Configuration" tab, check if TCP/IP is installed.

  192. STEP 4 Configuring Browsers for Client PCs

  195. Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0

  197. * On a Client PC, start Internet Explorer 4.0 
  198. * Click "View" 
  199. * Click "Internet Options" 
  200. * Click "Connection" 
  201. * Click "Connect to the Internet using a local area network" 
  202. * Under "Proxy Server", Check "Access the Internet using a proxy server" 
  203. * Click "Advanced" 
  204. * In the box next to "Socks:", enter "192.168.1.1"
  205. * In the "Port" box, enter "1080"
  206.  
  207. ONLY ENTER INFORMATION in the "Socks:" and its associated "Port". 
  208. Leave all other boxes empty. Make sure that the box that says 
  209. "Use the same proxy server for all protocols" is NOT checked.

  211. * Click "OK" 
  212. * Click "OK" again

  214. Netscape Navigator 4.0

  216. * On a Client PC, start Netscape Navigator 4.0 
  217. * Click "Edit"
  218. * Click "Preferences..." 
  219. * Double-click "Advanced" 
  220. * Click "Proxies" 
  221. * Click "Manual proxy configuration" 
  222. * Click "View"
  223. * In the box next to "Socks:", enter "192.168.1.1"
  224. * In the "Port" box, enter "1080"

  226. ONLY ENTER INFORMATION in the "Socks:" and its associated "Port".
