- ConnectPal Professional - Frequently Asked Questions
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- 1. What is the domain field in the connection profile about?
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- This property determines the domain where user authentication should occur.
- If this property is blank, the Internet server's domain is used to
- authenticate.
-
- Normally this property should be blank.
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- 2. What is the Net ToolKit about?
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- ConnectPal Professional comes with its very own Net ToolKit. Net Toolkit
- allows you to check on the particulars of the different domain names or even
- a particular user ( such as his/her last login time ). Its place in
- ConnectPal Professional is to serve as a power "toy" to further enhance your
- experience with the internet.
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- 3. Can you tell me more about the "finger" function found in the
- Net ToolKit?
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
-
- Basically, finger allows you to check the identity of a particular user
- in a server. It would tell you, if the finger is successful, the name of
- the person, the last login time of that person, which server he last logged
- into etc...
-
- Example, given a user's email address as "myname@mydomain.com". One can
- enter "myname" as the query string and "mydomain.com" as the host name.
- A successful finger would return the particulars of that person.
-
- Note that not all host supports the finger function. In this case, the
- finger operation would be unsuccessful and an appropriate message
- would be displayed.
-

-
- 4. How do I activate the Netscape Messenger email program for Netscape
- Communicator? I can't seem to find the executable for the Netscape
- Messenger but I want it to load when I receive new mail.
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- Select the executable "netscape.exe" for Netscape Communicator. At
- the end of the file path, add the following parameter "-mail"
-
- Example, C:\Program Files\Netscape\Communicator\Program\netscape.exe -mail
-
- The "mail" parameter would then tell Netscape Communicator to just launch
- its Messenger program without loading the Navigator.
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- 5. How to set up ConnectPal configuration when I launch it
- for the first time?
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- ConnectPal autodetects your connection profiles from your Win95 Dialup
- Networking.
-
- Under "Configuration Console", select "Connection" tab.
- Select the Connection Profile that you want. Click "Edit Profile".
- Fill in your username and password. Domain is optional. Click "Modify"
- to close. You can change your profile properties from "Profile Properties".
- Click "Make Default" to ask ConnectPal to autodial this number whenever
- you make a connection. This would ensure that all you need to do is to
- click once and leave the hassle of logging in to your dialup server due
- to busy lines. Remember to click "Safe Configuration" before
- exiting to ensure your changes have been saved.
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- 6. What is the use of the "Get GMT Time" function in the Net Toolkit?
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- Getting the GMT time is useful for finding out the time of other countries.
- This is useful for emails which often has a date/time stamp of the
- sender's time zone.
-
- Example, if the email's sent date/time stamp is 13:00 -7:00, it means that
- if the current GMT time is 22:00, then the current time is 15:00 in the
- sender's country.
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- 7. How do I delete one or more dialup connection profile?
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- First, if you are running ConnectPal, you need to exit from it.
- You need to access the Windows Dialup Networking folder in order to delete any
- connection profiles. After you have deleted the profile(s), run ConnectPal
- Professional. ConnectPal would automatically detect that you have deleted
- one or more profiles and require you to update ConnectPal's own profile
- database. Check the boxes of those connection profiles which you have
- deleted and click on the Delete button.
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- 8. What is the Scan button about?
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- The Scan button detects any live connections already established EXTERNAL of
- ConnectPal Professional (such as dialing in with the conventional Windows
- Dialup Networking). Once an external connection is detected, ConnectPal
- would set its internal state to emulate as if the connection was
- established through ConnectPal.
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- 9. How do I uninstall ConnectPal Professional?
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- Uninstalling ConnectPal Professional is simple.
- First go to "Control Panels" -> "Add/Remove Programs".
- Select the entry "ConnectPal Professional" in the programs listing.
- Lastly, click on the button "Add/Remove" and you are done.
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- 10. I've deleted away some dialup networking connection profiles. When I
- started ConnectPal, a pop-up window appeared asking me to delete away those
- profiles which I've deleted. After checking the deleted profiles and
- clicking on the "Delete" button, I proceeded as usual in my dialup business.
- When I started ConnectPal the next time, the same pop-up window appeared.
- Why? I thought I've already deleted away the profiles.
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- After you have checked the deleted profiles and clicked on the "Delete"
- button, you need to update ConnectPal by clicking on the "Save Configuration"
- button in the ConnectPal Configuration Console.
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- 11. When the connection is established or during the beginning of a
- connection, an error number of 5 was reported. Why?
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- This occurs when there is no entry for the program to be run even though
- you have checked a Program Number to be activated in the Program Launcher
- Window. Enter the full pathname of the program you wish to launch in the
- Application Textbox or you can click on the browse button to find the
- program you wish to run.
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- 12. When I click on the "Create Shortcut" button, ConnectPal reported an
- error that the file was not found or cannot be moved.
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- This occurs as the Windows registry setting and the actual FAT32 record do
- not match for the location of the ConnectPal executable file. This event is
- rare in occurrence. However, you can still create a shortcut to ConnectPal
- manually. Follow the steps below :
-
- i) Open up Windows Explorer
-
- ii) Go the the directory where the ConnectPal executable (ConnectPal.exe) is
- located. The directory is likely to be
- C:\Program Files\ConnectPal Professional\
-
- iii) Drag the ConnectPal executable file to the desktop.
-
- Finished! Windows has automatically created a shortcut for you right there
- on your desktop!
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- 13. After ConnectPal has successfully created a shortcut for me, I can't
- seem to access the ConnectPal icon in the Program menu. It just
- dissappeared.
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- To place the ConnectPal Professional icon back again, you can re-install
- ConnectPal Professional OR you can make a copy of the shortcut link for
- ConnectPal Professional and paste the copied link onto the
- Programs->Start Menu.
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- 14. After I've disconnected using the normal Windows DUN pop up box,
- ConnectPal redialed again.
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- This occurs as ConnectPal treats all other form of disconnections, other
- than by clicking on the Hangup button, as sudden dropped line or a sudden
- disconnection. If you have checked a tick in the "Auto-redial for sudden
- line drop" in the ConnectPal Configuration Console's Option tab, ConnectPal
- would then redial again.
-
- Click on the ConnectPal's Hangup button to disconnect instead.
-
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- 15. ConnectPal reports that I have 95 new mails which is not the case.
- I only have 5. Why is there such a mis-representation?
-
- ****************************************************************************
-
- ConnectPal Professional would report all mails in your mail server inbox
- as new mails. It is assumed that you would download the mails from your
- mail server using your email program and the email program would delete the
- mail from the mail server's inbox.
-
- Hence, if you are reading mails from your mail server without
- deleting them, then ConnectPal would still report the number of
- new mails corresponding to the number of mails in your mail server's inbox.
