  24.             PROPHET is an NIH sponsored graphics-oriented software pack-
  25.             age  designed to give biomedical researchers a wide range of
  26.             computing capabilities which can increase  productivity  and
  27.             expand  computational  options.   Tools for data management,
  28.             analysis, and scientific visualization  include:  comprehen-
  29.             sive  capabilities  in statistics and mathematical modeling,
  30.             molecular modeling and display,  nucleic  acid  and  protein
  31.             sequence   manipulation,   and   a  high  level  programming
  32.             language.  Some of the other services  PROPHET  offers  are:
  33.             access to databases of biomedical interest, such as the Pro-
  34.             tein Data Bank from Brookhaven National Laboratory, GenBank,
  35.             the Cambridge Crystallographic Database, and the PIR protein
  36.             sequence database, user support via electronic mail, a tele-
  37.             phone   hotline,   an  online  help  system,  an  electronic
  38.             newsletter, and an organized user group, extensive  documen-
  39.             tation, and numerous research application-specific programs.
  40.             Software created by biomedical investigators, such as  MBIR,
  41.             and commercial software, such as SAS, can be utilized within
  42.             PROPHET.  Users are also connected via  the  Internet  to  a
  43.             broad  community  of life science researchers.  Capabilities
  44.             exist for establishing both moderated and  unmoderated  bul-
  45.             letin  boards  in  various  scientific  domains of interest.
  46.             PROPHET's open architecture  design  and  advanced  software
  47.             engineering  results in a highly portable and well supported
  48.             package.  The  Biomedical  Research  Technology  Program  of
  49.             NIH's Division of Research Resources provides PROPHET at low
