  24.             MIDnet is a Midwest regional  research  and  education  data
  25.             communications  network that provides access to the National
  26.             Science Foundation Network (NSFNET) and to the Internet com-
  27.             munity.   Our purpose is to promote advances in research and
  28.             education by providing low-cost, reliable,  high-speed  con-
  29.             nectivity  to  educational  institutions,  non-profit organ-
  30.             zations, and businesses interested  in  the  advancement  of
  31.             research and education.

  33.             MIDnet's mission is to give individuals at member  sites  in
  34.             the  seven state region of Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri,
  35.             Nebraska, Oklahoma, and South Dakota access to a broad range
  36.             of  advanced  information resources such as large databases,
  37.             supercomputers, libraries,  data  archives,  and  electronic
  38.             mail.

  40.             MIDnet is an IP-based network running at speeds from 56 Kbps
  41.             to  T1  (1.544 mps), and currently connects sixty individual
  42.             sites  and  two  state  networks  using  cisco  and  Proteon
  43.             routers.

  45.             Major information resources include: the  EROS  Data  Center
  46.             (Sioux  Falls,  South Dakota), WUARCHIVE (Washington Univer-
  47.             sity in St. Louis), see Section 3-10, National Severe Storms
  48.             Laboratory  (University of Oklahoma), ARCHIE server (Univer-
  49.             sity of Nebraska-Lincoln) and on-line library  catalogs  and

  75.             Any IP host at any member organization  may  use  MIDnet  as
  76.             long  as  they  abide  by  the  MIDnet Acceptable Use Policy
  77.             (AUP). Any Internet-connected host may access MIDnet members
  78.             IP hosts under the same usage policy.
