  3. N-1-3-015.35, "The First Commercial E-mail Service has become Operational

  7. In May of this year, CHINAPAC (the national X.25 packet switching
  8. network provided by Beijing Telegraph Office of China PTT) announced
  9. that e-mail service has been available for users.  This e-mail system
  10. is the first commercial e-mail service based on the X.25 network in
  11. China.  This e-mail system was imported from United States.  The host
  12. machine, named CHINAMAIL, is located in Beijing, and it runs
  13. SprintMail (formerly TeleMail) software to implement the CCITT X.400
  14. protocol.

  16. Currently, the CHINAMAIL system can provide 3,000 mail-boxes for users
  17. within China.  This will be expanded to 10,000 mail-boxes.
