  3. N-1-2-040.51  The User Services Area of the Internet Engineering Task
  4. Force (IETF) by Joyce K. Reynolds*, <jkrey@isi.edu>

  7. The actual projects of the User Services Area are handled by the
  8. creation of Working Groups.  There are currently eight working groups
  9. in this area.  All of them held sessions at the IETF in San Diego,
  10. California, March 16-20, 1992.  Two of the eight are newly formed
  11. working groups: Internet School Networking and Internet Anonymous FTP
  12. Archives.

  14.              IETF User Services Area Working Groups

  17. Directory Information Services Infrastructure (DISI).  DISI is
  18. chartered to facilitate deployment of X.500 Directory Services on the
  19. Internet, by producing "Administrator's Guides".
  20.  
  21. Internet Anonymous FTP Archives Working Group (IAFA).  IAFA is
  22. chartered to define a set of recommended standard procedures for the
  23. access and administration of anonymous ftp archive sites on the
  24. Internet.
  25.  
  26. Internet School Networking (ISN).  ISN is chartered to facilitate the
  27. connection of the United States' K-12 (Kindergarten-12th Grade)
  28. schools, public and private, to promote school networking in general.
  29.  
  30. Network Information Services Infrastructure (NISI).  NISI is exploring
  31. the requirements for common, shared Internet-wide network information
  32. services.  The goal is to develop an understanding for what is
  33. required to implement an information services "infrastructure" for the
  34. Internet.
  35.  
  36. NOC-Tool Catalogue Revisions Working Group (NOCTOOL2).  "Son of
  37. NOCTools" is updating and revising their catalog to assist network
  38. managers in the selection and acquisition of diagnostic and analytic
  39. tools for TCP/IP Internets.

  41. User Documentation (USERDOC2).  UserDoc2 is preparing a revised
  42. bibliography of on-line and hard copy documents/reference materials/
  43. training tools addressing general networking information and how to
  44. use the Internet.  (Target audience: those individuals who provide
  45. services to end users and end users themselves.)
  46.  
  47. User Glossary (USERGLOSS).  User-Gloss is chartered to create an
  48. Internet glossary of networking terms and acronyms for the Internet
  49. community.
  50.  
  51. User Services (USWG).  The User Services Working Group provides a
  52. regular forum for people interested in all user services to identify
  53. and initiate projects designed to improve the quality of information
  54. available to end-users of the Internet.
