  7. In 1992 there will be two INTEROP Conferences instead of one.  The
  8. first of them will be held in Washington, DC from 18-22 May.  The
  9. second will be held in San Francisco, CA from 26-30 October.

  11. The focus for the Spring Conference in Washington is on the "Business
  12. of Internetworking".  While the technology that enables
  13. internetworking is certainly important and constantly evolving, the
  14. business opportunities and challenges are critical to the successful
  15. deployment by all end users.
  16.  
  17. Two major speakers address these business areas.  Mitch Kapor, as
  18. President of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, will address the
  19. public policy issues surrounding the establishment of commercial
  20. internetworking.  Mitch is especially concerned that this new
  21. capability be made accessible to as many persons as possible and that
  22. users of it are protected by intelligent extensions of the US
  23. Constitution and Bill of Rights.

  25. Dixon Doll, General Partner of Accel Partners, a venture capital firm,
  26. will describe the fears, hopes, dreams and schemes of those who step
  27. up to the opportunity to provide products and services in this new
  28. internetworking age.  While as users, we all want to have the
  29. cheapest, fastest, most reliable stuff we can, it is also in our
  30. interest to have suppliers who are competent, innovative, stable and
  31. responsive.  How is that balance met?

  33. The 45 Conference sessions will be broken into two main clusters:
  34. Deployment (or Tools for Today) and Technology (or Ideas for
  35. Tomorrow).  34 Tutorials will be offered on Monday-Tuesday and 7 of
  36. them will also be offered on Thursday-Friday due to strong expressions
  37. of demand for this format from previous attendees.

  39. The cooperative demonstrations of vendor offerings will center on
  40. SMDS, Frame Relay, Network Management, FDDI, X.400 Messaging, Token
  41. Ring and ONC/NFS.
