  5. Netfind is a way of finding internet e-mail addresses.  It relies on
  6. common but not universal programs, and so may not find some people with
  7. valid addresses.  The most foolproof way of finding someone's e-mail
  8. address remains to call them up on the phone and ask.  
  9.  
  10. All Netfind sites are functionally equivalent.  Multiple ones are listed
  11. here in case some are overloaded or down with technical problems.

  14. How to Search Using Netfind
  15. ---------------------------
  16.  
  17. Given the name of a person on the Internet and a rough description of where
  18. the person works, Netfind attempts to locate information about the person.
  19. When prompted, enter a name followed by a set of keywords, such as
  20.  
  21.         schwartz university colorado boulder
  22.  
  23. The name can be a first, last, or login name.  The keys describe where the
  24. person works, by either the name of the institution or the city/state/country.
  25. If you know the institution's domain name (e.g., "cs.colorado.edu", where there
  26. are host names like "brazil.cs.colorado.edu") you can specify it as keys
  27. without the dots (e.g., "cs colorado edu").  Keys are case insensitive and may
  28. be specified in any order.  Using more than one key implies the logical AND of
  29. the keys.  Specifying too many keys may cause searches to fail.  If this
  30. happens, try specifying fewer keys, e.g.,

  34. If you specify keys that match many domains, Netfind will list some of the
  35. matching domains/organizations and ask you to form a more specific search.
  36. Note that you can use any of the words in the organization strings (in addition
  37. to the domain components) as keys in future searches.

  39. When Netfind runs, it displays a trace of the parallel search progress,
  40. along with the results of the searches.
