  4.  The Domain Survey attempts to discover every host on the Internet by doing a
  5.  complete search of the Domain Name System.  The latest results gathered
  6.  during mid-April 1993 are listed.  For more information see RFC 1296; for
  7.  detailed data see the pub/zone directory on ftp.nisc.sri.com.  This survey
  8.  was done using the census program developed at the University of California
  9.  on Santa Cruz; see technical report UCSC-CRL-92-34 on host ftp.cse.ucsc.edu.
  10.  The statistics below were generated by running the collected host data
  11.  through a number of utility programs.

  88.  Why do only 28% of the advertised hosts answer a ping?
  89.     Many advertised hosts are behind firewalls that only allow email
  90.     to get through.  Technically, they would not be considered hosts
  91.     that are directly on the Internet.  Some pings are probably lost
  92.     due to links being down, and/or problems with the pinging process.
