  18. Unsolicited Mass Email (SPAM) is now on the agenda of the WG.

  20. Agenda Flashes Up and its looks okay.

  24. The topic of Internet Advertising is brought up as a possibility, but
  25. it is pointed  out that SPAMing is more of a general problem.

  27. Someone points out that in the Anti-Spamming BOF from Montreal that
  28. the talked ended going towards writing a guideline for ISP's since the
  29. people actually performing SPAM's won't read anything we write.

  31. An ISP points out that it would be good to have an RFC to point to
  32. when a client is behaving.

  34. Should we revise 1855 or start a new document?

  36. Susan asks what should we say besides this is bad?

  38. Gary points out we can put pointers as to here is an appropriate place
  39. to discuss these topics which are typical of spam messages.

  41. Someone points out that there can be suggestions on how to deal with
  42. being the reciepient of a SPAM.

  44. Should be a third section for ISP's.  
  45.   How to respond to complaints that one of their accounts is
  46.     performing SPAM's.  
  47.   Pointers to Site Security Handbook and GRIP stuff.  
  48.   Pointers to ongoing efforts to filter SPAM's.  
  49.   Recommend that you get a mailer which can filter at the SMTP level.
  50.   Suggest ISP's disable VRFY maybe?

  52. Discussion on the fact that it is bad to pull down a mailing list and
  53.   sending unsolicited email to the recipients.

  55. Someone points out that companies are mining old usenet archives and
  56. selling addresses.

  58. There is a need to give some advise on not responding or buying from
  59. these mass mailers.

  61. There is some legal discussions about what might happen with regard to
  62. this document.  The final decision is that the IESG and ISOC will keep
  63. a specific eye on this.  Sally will be the document editor since she
  64. is covered under IETF legal protection.
