  28. Description of Working Group:

  30. This working group has three main objectives:
  31.  
  32. * Consider current issues in traffic flow measurement, such as
  33.  
  34.   - Security issues relating to both traffic measuring devices
  35.     and to the data they produce.
  36.  
  37.   - Policy issues relating to traffic measurement and usage
  38.     accounting, for example any requirements these may place on
  39.     emerging network protocols
  40.  
  41.   - Existing work in traffic flow measurement, including that of
  42.     IETF Working Groups such as bmwg/ippm, rsvp and rmonmib, as
  43.     well as that by vendors and independent researchers
  44.  
  45. * Produce an improved Traffic Flow Model considering at least the
  46.   following needs:
  47.  
  48.   - wider range of measurable quantities, e.g. those relating to
  49.       IPv6, and to class of service
  50.   - simpler ways to specify flows of interest
  51.   - better ways to control access to measured flow data
  52.   - strong focus on data reduction capabilities
  53.   - efficient hardware implementation
  54.  
  55. * Develop the RTFM Architecture and Meter MIB as 'standards track'
  56.   documents with the IETF.
  57.  
  58.  Goals and Milestones: 
  59.  
  60.    Feb 96       Submit set of revised Internet-Drafts and of RFC1272 to the 
  61.                 IESG for considertation as Experimental Protocols.             
  62.  
  63.    Mar 96       Produce outline for 'New Traffic Flow Model' document          
  64.  
  65.    Jul 96       Submit 'New Traffic Flow Model' document as an Internet-Draft, 
  66.                 and begin working on an implementation document.               
  67.  
  68.    Jul 96       Submit Internet-Draft on Flow Meter MIB.                       
  69.  
  70.    Nov 96       Submit Implementation document as an Internet-Draft.           
  71.  
  72.    Nov 96       Submit 'New Traffic Flow Model' to the IESG to be considered 
  73.                 for publication as an RFC.

  75.    Mar 97       Submit Implementation Internet-Draft to the IESG to be 
  76.                 considered for publication as an RFC.
