  6. Minutes of the Router Requirements Working Group (RREQ)

  11. A brief review of the history of the working group was presented for the
  12. benefit of newcomers.  The final call for the Internet-Draft has gone
  13. out and it is within days of the close on Last Call.  This meeting was
  14. to allow any final, face-to-face posing of any outstanding issues.

  16. Two were raised by the self-proclaimed Security ``mafia.''
  17.  
  18.  
  19.    o The desire to strengthen the wording on use of cryptographic
  20.      techniques in router configuration.
  21.  
  22.    o The need to strengthen the wording on use of cryptographic
  23.      techniques, by routing protocols that have these features
  24.      available.

  27. The wording in the document was changed to strengthen the configuration
  28. section (although this is really a host function and should be addressed
  29. in the future Host Requirements Working Group).
  30.  
  31. The working group was concerned that a simple statement that ``routing
  32. protocols should use better cryptio techniques'' would lead to
  33. uninteroperable implementations.  The group requested that the security
  34. folks create either an implementation profile or compliance statement to
  35. be inserted at some future time.  The security folks present agreed to
  36. allow the document to proceed from Internet-Draft to Proposed Standard
  37. with the revised wording to be inserted as the document proceeds from
  38. Proposed to Draft.

  40. Fred will post the revised wording this week to the archives.  The group
  41. believes that with this minor change, the IESG should affirm this draft
  42. and advance it to Proposed Standard at the end of the current Last Call.

  44. The group also noted the passing of Frank Kastenholtz as co-chair.  His
  45. efforts as co-chair and document editor have been greatly appreciated
  46. and it is hoped that these indulgences will reduce his ``torment'' in
  47. the IESG.
