  25. Description of Working Group:

  27. The objective of the Management Services Interface Working Group is to
  28. define a management services interface by which management
  29. applications may obtain access to a heterogeneous, multi-vendor,
  30. multi-protocol set of manageable objects.
  31.  
  32. The service interface is intended to support management protocols and
  33. models defined by industry and international standards bodies.  As
  34. this is an Internet Engineering Task Force Working Group, the natural
  35. focus is on current and future network management protocols and models
  36. used in the Internet.  However, the interface being defined is
  37. expected to be sufficiently flexible and extensible to allow support
  38. for other protocols and other classes of manageable objects.  The
  39. anticipated list of protocols includes Simple Network Management
  40. Protocol (SNMP), OSI Common Management Information Protocol (CMIP),
  41. CMIP Over TCP (CMOT), Manufacturing Automation Protocol and Technical
  42. Office Protocol CMIP (MAP/TOP CMIP) and Remote Procedure Call (RPC).
