  28. Description of Working Group:
  29.  
  30. The MBONE Deployment Working Group will be a forum for coordinating the
  31. deployment, engineering, and operation of multicast routing protocols
  32. and procedures in the global Internet. This activity will include, but
  33. not be limited to:
  34.  
  35.   - Deployment of multicast routing in the global Internet.
  36.  
  37.   - Receive regular reports on the current state of the
  38.     deployment of mbone technology. Create "practice and
  39.     experience" documents that capture the experience of those
  40.     who have deployed and are deploying various MBONE
  41.     technologies (e.g. PIM, DVMRP, CBT).
  42.  
  43.   - Based on reports and other information, provide feedback to
  44.     IDMR.
  45.  
  46.   - Develop mechanisms and procedures to aid in the transition to 
  47.     native multicast, where appropriate.
  48.  
  49.   - Develop mechanisms and procedures for sharing operational
  50.     information to aid in operation of the global MBONE.
  51.  
  52.   - Development of guidelines to improve the use of
  53.     administratively scoped multicast addresses.
  54.  
  55.   - Develop mechanisms and procedures for creating and
  56.     maintaining a MBONE topology database.
  57.   
  58. This working group will initially interact closely with IDMR. It is
  59. believed that, once hierarchical multicast routing systems are
  60. specified and deployed, the working groups will diverge somewhat.
  61. Finally, note that in the below 'Goals & Milestones', the type of RFC
  62. will be subject to discussions within the working group.

  66.    Sep 96       Submit Internet-Draft on inter-provider coordination of the 
  67.                 deployment of pruning mrouteds.

  69.    Sep 96       Establish initial charter, goals, and long-term group agenda.

  71.    Jan 97       Submit Internet-Draft outlining requirements for the existing 
  72.                 MBONE infrastructure.                                          
  73.  
  74.    Apr 97       Submit Internet-Draft specifying the use of administratively 
  75.                 scoped multicast addresses.

  77.    Jun 97       Begin work, with RPS WG, on extensions to RPSL to describe 
  78.                 multicast routing policy.

  80.    Jun 97       Subnmit Internet-Draft specifying the use of aggregation for 
  81.                 DVMRP (and, in general where applicable). In addition, address 
  82.                 the use of DVMRP default.

  84.    Sep 97       Submit Internet-Draft specifying the use of native multicast 
  85.                 where appropriate (e.g. exchange points).

  87.    Sep 97       Begin work on document of co-existence strategies for IPv4 
  88.                 multicast and IPv6 multicast.

  90.    Dec 97       Begin work on a document describing the deployment of 
  91.                 inter-provider hirearchical multicast routing coordination (or,
  92.                 when available).
