  25. Description of Working Group:

  27. IRE will focus on the future direction the Internet Address Registry
  28. system should take.  There will be four major goals of IRE, namely:
  29.  
  30. - creation of a document defining the Internet address registry system
  31.   goals, specifically what role(s) the Internet address registry
  32.   system should be performing, can perform, and what functions are
  33.   best performed by other bodies.
  34.  
  35. - creation of a document detailing the administrative structure of
  36.   the Internet address registry system, including chains of delegation
  37.   and appeal.
  38.  
  39. - creation of a document which can be used as a skeleton for future
  40.   Internet Address Registry policies, providing background information
  41.   to help balance the conflicting goals of allowing for growth and
  42.   avoiding routing problems.
  43.  
  44. - creation of a document providing guidelines to Internet service
  45.   providers regarding allocation and assignment policies and the
  46.   implication of registry allocation policies with respect to service
  47.   provider address assignments.
  48.  
  49. IRE, having a focus specifically on Internet addresses, is explicitly
  50. NOT exploring, developing, and/or analyzing domain name registry
  51. developments or evolution,
  52.  
  53. It is expected that all four objectives of the IRE working group will
  54. result in documents which will be used in the operational functions of
  55. the Internet Registry system.
