CURRENT_MEETING_REPORT_
Reported by Theodore Brunner/Bellcore
Minutes of the Interfaces MIB Working Group (IFMIB)
The group will recommend that RFC 1304 ``Definitions of Managed Objects
for the SIP Interface Type'' be elevated from Proposed Standard to Draft
Standard. The Internet-Draft, ``Definitions of Managed Objects for SMDS
Interfaces'' (draft-ietf-ifmib-sipmib-00.txt), will be submitted to the
area director, upon completion of changes, with the recommendation for
Draft Standard status.
The group recommends that RFC 1398 ``Definitions of Managed Objects for
the Ethernet-like Interface Types'' be elevated from Draft Standard to
Standard. The Internet-Draft, ``Definitions of Managed Objects for the
Ethernet-like Interface Types'' (draft-ietf-ifmib-types-00.txt), will be
submitted to the area director for consideration as a Standard. A list
of changes between RFC 1398 and this Internet-Draft can be found in the
change log in the Internet-Draft.
The group discussed elevating RFC 1231 ``IEEE 802.5 Token Ring MIB''
from Proposed Standard to Draft Standard. A list of suggested changes
to the document was circulated on the mailing list by the authors.
These suggestions were, for the most part, adopted.
In addition:
o Implementation experience was collected by Ted Brunner via
questionnaire.
o Dot5TimerTable is declared obsolete.
o There is interest in a ``bridge#/ring#'' for source route support.
o The working group will discuss proprietary vendor MIBS on the
mailing list.
o On the mailing list, the working group will decide whether to (a)
reject source route support, or (b) create separate source route
MIB.
o Compliance is conditional that a host doing source routing must
support the SR table.
The Internet-Draft ``Management Information Base for Management of
Network Connections'' (draft-ietf-ifmib-conntable-01.txt) will be
recommended as a Proposed Standard. Applicability is only mandatory
where the network supports interworking between Frame Relay and ATM. A
generic connection MIB should be pursued for future services.
An informal presentation was made on the 100baseX MIB. The author had
sent a MIB fragment to the mailing list. The working group will make no
decisions on the MIB until summer at the earliest. Dave Perkins will
assist Maurice Turcotte is crafting the MIB.
