  6. Minutes of the FDDI MIB Working Group (FDDIMIB)

  8. The status of the current MIB Internet-Draft was discussed.  It is
  9. progressing through the Last Call, Directorate review, and IESG review
  10. with few comments, none of which are substantive; all are editorial in
  11. nature.  If all continues as anticipated, the document will soon become
  12. an RFC with Proposed Standard status.
  13.  
  14. RFC 1285 will continue to be a Proposed Standard for management of ANSI
  15. 6.2 based FDDI network devices; the new RFC will be for the management
  16. of ANSI 7.x based FDDI network devices.  RFC 1285 will expire at some
  17. point in the future but does not need to be dealt with at this time.

  19. The majority of the (short) meeting time was devoted to consideration of
  20. the trap document.  In a repetition of history (Atlanta IETF, July 30,
  21. 1991), the net result was that there is no need for a trap document.
  22. One reason for this is the observation that the Alarms group of the RMON
  23. MIB can be implemented in the RMON device and thereby provide all of the
  24. functions of all of the event notifications contained in the ANSI
  25. document.  The working group decided at the Columbus IETF meeting that
  26. there would need to be standard mechanisms for enabling, disabling, and
  27. rate controlling any traps to be generated.  Since the RMON MIB provides
  28. all of these capabilities and is already progressing on the standards
  29. track, the group concluded that there is no need for additional work on
  30. traps.

  32. Consequently, having concluded its charter, the work of the group is
  33. finished.  Members should anticipate the working group going dormant in
  34. the near future, to be re-chartered when there are new work items.
